  1. Hosting options for your video Before embedding a video on your site, upload the video to a supported external hosting service. Click the links below for help with this: YouTube Vimeo Animoto Wistia
  2. This is not something that can be solved, if you are referring to "hositng" videos on Squarespace. It is not desinged to do so. However to use vimeo or youtube or others to host videos and embed then in your site on SS that works well.
  3. This article may shed some light on this subject: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205812748-Image-and-file-URLs-in-Squarespace
  4. Boy, that is the truth. What works for Avenue won't work for Wexley and vice versa, etc.
  5. I don't expect any change. 7.0 and 7.1 are very different platforms. Any 7.1 template can be made to look like any other without a master change template switch. You simply use style tweaks, which includes fonts, color schemes, and layout pages inside your existing site. If you miss having the template change feature that is in 7.0 I will tell you that those template families can be so drastically different from each other that the template change function was not something you would necessarily want to use. It could be easier just to start from scratch.
  6. I have a logo that I made using Squarespaces logo maker. I don't use it all the time, and I have one that is animated, it moves like a shutter click as well. My logo is the name of my site. It is a play on words. I am a photographer, writer about my life and view of life, faith, (never politics) and I write about the view through my motorhome window, which can be random at times. My wife came up with the name. my random views
  7. I don't really see an advantage to having management. I have had it with a number of hosting sites, and some unfavorable things come along with that ability. Like files have to be smaller, can't add an image directly to your site unless it is in your library storage first, sorry you have run out of space, you have reached your maximum number of files, you must remove some before adding more or upgrade your plan. That sort of thing. Squarespace has their own compression and storage methods and when using image search you are seeing a facsimile of an image on your site, not an actual file itself. You cannot delete what doesn't exist and if you could, what if that image was posted on your site and you accidentally hit delete? There are a lot of things to consider here. I don't use that search function, It can be helpful but I choose to use a very nice Sony free image management program that sorts, creates folders, has editing functions, and allows me to easily upload to Squarespace.
  8. It reminded me of a Wordpress site. It's very heavy on text, and when viewing from a phone, you don't know that there is any information to scroll down to. The menu hambuger and book button take all the attention. I am not a big fan of action buttons high on the site when there is a lot of information to be seen below first. Its my experience that it may not turn viewers off but it doesn't turn them on either. Photography sites really need to remember that a picture really is worth a thousand words espcially when two of those words are book now. Think about a landing page, one or two really good images, not much text something with some really good impact that will grab the viewer, you have four seconds to do so and that is all so make those seconds good ones. Here are two examples of this first impact concept: https://christinegregoryphotography.com/ https://mattrobertsphotography.net/
  9. One of the ways to speed up the editor is to make sure it is the only window open in your browser. Give it all the resources that you can. Close out any other program that is also using the web, FB is a bandwidth hog, and streaming while working could easily kill the editor. When having these issues you might also run a speed test to narrow down the issue, config problem or bandwidth problem. I run this one: https://speedtest.org/ I use an offsite image manager to sort my photos for uploading to squarespace and when it is open I have to be patient. I found I can speed things up if I drag the photos I want to my desktop and upload to SS from there with the image management softwared closed.
  10. Why not build a new portfolio in the unlinked section of your site? Won't be on the nav bar and can't be seen without knowing the exact url slug. I know that this doesn't help with building new project sections in an existing portfolio page, but seems good to create a new project if you can use a new portfolio.
  11. Number one that comes to mind for me is a simple FAQ page, with or without anchors. https://waterclinicfl.com/faq Put the text over a background image, make it the focal point. I did that in the same site I posted the link to. Headlines become important, they help grab the viewers attention, so the text following is read, Also a page of technical info , for example a company that sells computers or audio equipment could have a page of manuals and guides that can be read online and/or could be downloaded.
  12. This appears to be a recent change, the white+ on the blue circle has replaced the insert point teardrop for both 7.0 and 7.1. It will not show up unless you are hovering over a page section where you need to edit a block or can add a block.
  13. Updated 10/27/21 There is no option to change templates in 7.1 because there is in reality only one template. What Squarespace calls templates in 7.1 are actually design starting points, short cuts as it were. You have the ability to make any 7.1 design look like another 7.1 design in config using style tweaks for fonts, colors, layouts, ect. What you can do is look at the "template" you wish to change to, note the color schemes, fonts etc and then change your site to match. For example you can change the color scheme for your whole site with pretty much one click. There is no option to change from 7.0 to 7.1 or the other way around due to the fact they are built on two different desingn/config platforms. There is an option for changing templates from one 7.0 to another 7.0 template which I suggest takes careful consideration before doing so depending on the templates being swapped. To change from 7.0 to 7.1 does require a new trial site and a rebuild. There could be some additional cost depending on the age of the original site, account log in stays the same.
  14. Hope this helps you: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205815388-Adding-an-MLS-search
  15. Squarespace has many fonts that look like adobe fonts. I have browsed SS fonts and compared them to ones on this page. If you find you still want to upload custom fonts then this should help: https://katescott.co/blog/add-custom-font-to-squarespace https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts Find a specific font specific Adobe or Google Font, search for it in the Browse all fonts option. In the Home Menu, click Design, then click Fonts. Under Global Text Styles, click the text type you want to change: Headings, Paragraphs, Buttons, or Miscellaneous. Click Family. Click Browse All Fonts. Scroll to browse the available fonts, or enter the font name in the Search fonts field at the top of the panel. Click Save to apply your changes
  16. This thread should be helpful, be sure to read the whole thing:
  17. You can also copy just one page, move it to your unlinked section work on it, enable it move it to the linked section, make it your home page, move the original one out and disable it. If your home page is a portfolio page the procedure would be a bit more complitcated, you would create a new portfolio page in the unlinked section, copy the pages in the portfolio move them to the unlinked section to work on them, when done move the new portfolio page into the linked section and all the pages as well. Then move the originals out, the portfolio out and then disable or delete. Need any more help in this regard don't hesitate to ask here.
  18. The procedure for moving from 7.0 to 7.1 or the other way round is the same. I would do it this way 1. Spend time looking at the demos of templates until you find the template you want to use. 2. Start a new two week trial with that template, no payment is needed, and your account log on does not change, you are simply adding a second site on your dashboard. 3. Build the new site, you have two weeks, and if you know you want to keep it and are not ready to go live at that time, you will still need to activate it with a credit card. Choose your billing plan that fits your needs. I think You will have the option of a new free domain if you want it at time which can actually be a second one. 4. When ready to move sites, use the Domain transfer option in the config of the new site. Moving one Squarespace domain to a new site is a pretty quick operation. 5. New site up and running, cancel the old site, not your account just the site, and at that moment you will receive a credit for any time left on your billing period, be it a month or a year. Note during the time you have both sites in your dashboard you have to go to whichever site you want to edit. Your Dashboard will have thumbnails of each site you have with a button that says website on the right. Click it or the thumbnail to get to the edit function. I currently have seven of those six 7.0 and one 7.1 and have no trouble moving from one to the other.
  19. That is a a copy and paste situation and if necessary re-upload images. There is no other way to do it. There is no built in copy or transfer function from 7.0 to 7.1
  20. I don't know if there is a best one, many Squarespace templares would work. If you want one that would be easy to configure for writers than many here would tell you I am a bit prejudiced in that regard, but in a good way. I write, a lot, non fiction mostly, no poetry unless song lyrics count. I am also a photographer so I wanted a site that allows me to display both, words and images. I choose Avenue five years ago and have stuck with it. It doesn't look much like the orignal template, I have personalized it quite a bit. Avenue is one suggestion, I am sure there are others, and hopefully some writers here will post a link to their site. Here is mine: my random views It would be easy to change the word "stories" to poems. I had to make that observation.
  21. I like the site, the movement of the banner is nice as is the image. The second image however, I assume its pistachio butter, I think it needs to re-done to make it more appealing. Maybe a whole slice of bread as opposed to the very close up shot?
  22. You can password a 7.1 portfolio page but not a portfolio section. Depending on the template such as Avenue you can password an index page in 7.0 or any page in that index as well. Some templates such as Brine, which is the inspiration for 7.1 will not allow pages in an index to be password protected.
  23. The image has to be uploaded as a file on your site first and that link is used on the map creator. You create the map post the html in a code block on the page you want and if the original image is still there in a block remove that. The best way is to use a link editor Open a link editor highlight text anywhere, click the link icon. Upload a new file To upload a new file: In the link editor, click in the URL field. Click the File tab. Click Upload File to choose a file from your computer, or drag a file into the Upload File area. After uploading, click the file in the list. A checkmark appears beside the chosen file. Click Save, then click Apply or Save. Click the link to get the address of the file. Copy it then remove the link. The address still functions.
  24. Depends on what message you are trying to get across. Rock Band site selling music and bookings, bold, bright. Modern art, could be either, based on the artists style. Children's book author, bright, bold, very friendly. Resturaunts, once again that depends on the place itself. White tablecloth place, understated, emphasis on atmosphere and the dishes. A fun filled food truck, bright exciting, some image animation. Achitectual design, interior design, understated, white or muted background, let the images of the designs do the talking. In all types, easy on the text, especially on the home page. When it comes to websites a picture is worth far more than a thousand words, My own personal site? I am a storyteller and photographer, so I have a lot of words and my design it is a bit of both, bold and calming. I added just a bit of pizazz to the home page. I would not consider it, built on Avenue, to be a minimalist style site, not like the Avenue demo itself. Both can be seen here and I think this is an example of how you can build a site that is really unique starting with a Squarespace template.
