  1. Hi, I am not a fan of the typing. Actually, I am a fan and I think it's very clever and the snappy typing works with your crisp, geometric design. But it's so distracting that it's mesmerizing. I looked at it for several minutes and then I realized that I had no idea what I had just read.
  2. Thanks for your attitude! A lot of people don't take criticism well.
  3. It looks great. the cat is perfect - so compelling.
  4. I totally agree with Gideon_22's comments. If I were a potential customer, I would want to know why a product is redeemed and some sort of assurance that is isn't damaged. I would also want to know about your return policy. Your product descriptions are very skimpy. I price checked an item (nutribullet) and it is on sale, but your original price is William Sonoma's price, and you can usually get a discount code for them. This seems to be true with a lot of your products. I wouldn't buy - lack of disclosure, no stated return policy, vague about shipping cost, and it's easy to find the same product for a similar price from an established retailer with generous return policies. It's not worth saving 15% vs. Amazon and saving nothing from other retailers with constant sales and coupons.
  5. Site URL: https://www.gardenclubofoldgreenwich.org/plant-sale I am trying to create a web version of a poster. The poster has a quadrilateral with text, and I managed to mimic the shape. I got the shape right (more or less) using triangles, but there is a gap between the top triangle and the block that I cannot figure out. Also, iis there any way to get the whole shape to go from edge to edge? It's okay as it is, but it would be so much better edge to edge. <svg height="200" width="100%""> <polygon points=" 0,200 1400,200 1400,0" style="fill:white"> </svg> <div style="background-color:#ffffff; vertical-align: middle; padding:40px 45px"> <div style="color: #BA5776; font-family: 'futura';font-weight: 700;font-size: 5em; line-height: 1.2 !important; text-align: center">Plant Sale Saturday May 14 </div> <div style="color: #BA5776; font-family: 'futura';font-weight: 700;font-size: 2em; line-height: 1.2 !important; text-align: center"> (the day before Mother's Day) time place </div> </div> <svg height="200" width="100%""> <polygon points="0,0 0,0 1400,200 1400,0" style="fill:white"> </svg>
  6. This is harsh, but I think you need to rethink what you are trying to accomplish on your homepage. I'm assuming you want to get people to your showroom, but your site doesn't feature any specific info about your business and it seems like you're an online business. It's not clear that you are a retail seller. Potential customers need to see your logo and some explanation of why they should buy from you and not your competitor. Do you have area exclusives on any of the products? You should say that. Because you want to publish so much information, your home page should only contain content that is directly related to your principal goal. No one wants to scroll that much. I think you should delete the covid line and just say "financing is available." TMI and it's only relevant once a customer is ready to commit. The home page is way too long and there is no particular order (product, product, covid, product (pools,) financing, product, renovations, products, pools again, "stay tuned", products, info about you in a tiny font, tmi about facebook links, a map that doesn't have your address.) I would consider using a template with index pages. I find they make it much easier to keep the info organized and the banners can be cool (they can also be a hot mess.) The images are poor quality and too big. There are too many links that take you to other websites and you don't want potential customers to click away. Just say no to pdfs. Shouldn't your address read "Red Deer, Alberta"? Your logo is too small. The sites color palette does not relate to your logo colors. The home page should be relevant to both locations (if you don't own the other site, you shouldn't feature it so prominently.) You probably shouldn't devote your header to a single product's promo video. Get a nice photo of your showroom. The images are very poor and you need to reduce the font options. Your location and hours are buried.
  7. never mind. I figured it out. I just figured out that "first-page" referred to my page, not a label for the first page of any index. Thanks so much.
  8. I did add some changes to reduce padding is several places. Maybe that is a problem? // reduce margins everywhere .markdown-block { padding-top: 0 !important; padding-bottom: 0 !important; } .Footer-inner { -webkit-box-sizing: border-box; -moz-box-sizing: border-box; box-sizing: border-box; padding: 2px 80px; } .Main-content { padding: 80px 80px !important; }
  9. Hi, That didn't change anything on the "stuff" page but it did reduce the padding on my home page. It didn't change anything on my other index page (members - I just took off the password)
  10. Site URL: https://www.gardenclubofoldgreenwich.org/stuff Hi, I have an index page in Brine, and the first page is a markdown block (it's the only thing on the page.) You can toggle its block and see another page. Is there a way to make the page look more like a banner? I have a background image that is a solid color and it would look fine if there was less padding on the top and bottom. When the page is not an index page, I can color the markdown box but it doesn't go from edge to edge so it looks like a banner instead of a floating box. Thanks
  11. I love the colorful images with the cool gray background. I didn't know what "snuffling" is. I have two young dogs and I had to poke around the site to figure it out - at first I thought that it was just a random toy. You don't want potential customers to Google it (that will lead them directly to your competitors.)
  12. Hi, I'm not a fan of the typeface. It's hard to read, the x-height is very high (LinkedIn looks odd,) and the kerning is off (look at the word "the" - there is a lot of space between the h and the e.) Full disclosure: I do have a bit of astigmatism, so maybe it's just me.
  13. Wow - you do very cool stuff. I think it looks very good. I didn't thoroughly proofread it but I did read all the pages and nothing jumped out at me. If I were going to engage with you, I would find this very helpful. I like the teal color and the moving image immediately made me think of biology. I would consider using different quotes on each page. I think it would encourage viewers to look at every page (especially nerdy viewers like me.)
  14. This is great. I love it only took me a few seconds to understand what and who the site is for. Your personable touches make it very clear that you do the voice work and you are very approachable. If I were looking for a voiceover artist, this site would feel like a gift because it is very clear. I know where you are, I can hear your work, and I can contact you directly. If I could afford you, you would have the job! One question - must the job be from London? That is not clear and I am not sure what difference proximity makes. Plenty of Americans would love to use your voice. I could find incredibly picky things to say, but they would be trite and wouldn't make it better. The one thing I think you should try is to recenter your photo on the first page - it should be centered on your face and not feature you t-shirt so much. The top of your head blends too well with the oval's curve, and your face takes up a mere quarter of the space. I would like it better if I was looking in your face and eyes rather than the bottom of your chin.
  15. I don't know if you solved this, but I upload my spreadsheets to google drive and open them with google sheets. They are pretty easy to embed once I've done that, but they don't look very elegant. It works very well with documents and slideshows though. Here are a couple of examples of embeds of google docs. https://www.gardenclubofoldgreenwich.org/colors-etc
  16. The nav bar menu is unreadable - choosing overlay fonts is a pain because the is no color that always works. When I use them, I make the image much darker, but you probably don't want distorted images. There is a code thing to specify the font more than squarespace wants you to, but there is only so much you can do (background colors are the easiest.) I would reduce the number of items on the menu - it will make it easier to read and the font color will be less of an issue. You could make "membership" a button and create a "browse" page. That way the menu would read "About Us Events Browse" heading that takes you to a page that has buttons for every genre and year. The browse page will be annoying to set up, but you only have to do it once. This code is Design - Custom CSS works for me /* make nav background green and fiddle with size of background*/ .Header-nav--primary { text-decoration: none; background-color: #c2d57c; line-height: .2em; border-right: 10px solid #c2d57c; border-left: 10px solid #c2d57c; }
  17. Site URL: http://www.gardenclubofoldgreenwich.org I would like to add a shadow to the text used when the banner is the page background (index pages in Brine Template.) I currently use a white font, but I usually have to adjust the image so the text will be readable. If I have white font with a black shadow, it is much easier to read.
  18. Site URL: http://www.gardenclubofoldgreenwich.org Sometimes when my site is loading a form pops up. I have a button that links to the form, but I don't want it to pop up when it's loading. It happens when my site is taking more time to load (less than 2 seconds when it's bad.) The form box pops up, but it doesn't contain all the text. I've tried removing the form and adding it back, but that didn't work. It's very frustrating because it doesn't always pop up so I can't be certain of anything. Also, I have a markdown box with an embedded google slides presentation in a green box. The problem is that the box has a black border on the left and bottom edge. The code creates a square so I can have the square presentation show without the black bars. If I cannot figure out how to get rid of them, I will just put the same border on all the boxes and pretend that it's a design feature!

  21. I find it hard to believe that this is such a difficult feature to provide. Also, it should be easy to look at an image and see what pages it is used on. I have dozens of images of my logos, many of which are exactly the same. I have started using links to images on my google drive because my squarespace library is unmanageable.
  22. If you want your mission to be clear, you could state it right away. If it's the first thing you see, it will get the point across without much detail. I would put "Meet Our Bakers" and "Bake with Us" right after it and move the pink block down (I don't think it adds much - except "join" and that isn't a link. The block takes up a lot of the screen.) I found the appeal to bakers and buyers simultaneously confusing. Most visitors will be buyers, so make it all about what they want - goodies from a local small-scale baker. "Small-scale" is a little derogatory - "boutique" is a more positive word but it's hackneyed. Interested bakers are more likely to scroll down a bit or hit "contact" than shoppers are. 23. Also, Free Delivery should be on the product page (no one cares about the delivery fee until they are thinking about buying) the center one redundant, and what is "join us?" I wouldn't have the pale candle image first - there are so many images that are much more interesting.
  24. I am much more of an expert on online shopping than web design, but I found this page hard to figure out. There are a lot of words, plain buttons that give no idea of the types of products, a LOT of space devoted to a blog, and then an article. The images on the page link to articles when I was expecting them to link with products. All uppercase text is hard to read and it's shouty. I would be more likely to shop if you talked less and showed more. The top line is unnecessary and redundant. So are the words "GIFT SHOPPING." The buttons are not helpful, very dull, and they take up a lot of space. This is rude, but I don't want to read your blog. Most space on the homepage is devoted to it. It may be because I am not from the UK, but I didn't understand what "Shop Commissions" meant. I also didn't understand "CHRISTMAS READS" The site's aesthetic is very different from most of your products. There are a lot of different fonts too. The three column format for "OUR GOALS" is hard to read. menu: Our Artists Shop About Us Make the blog an item on "about us" and get rid of the "artist of the month" and "product inspiration" submenu items. Make "commissions" a product category instead of giving it a spot on the main navigation. dedicated to discovering new artist and finding the perfect gift (link to the home page Images - a product summary with images would work and every image will link to the product which links back to the product page.
