I found your share buttons and really liked it. I just didn't like the cost to be able to use it on my blog that should have share buttons built into the template.

I started out on 7.1 and this weekend I rebuilt my entire site in 7.0 so I have it ready to go before next billing cycle so I can go through the steps of switching everything over. I don't mind doing it and my site looks better for it, BUT the reason why I rebuilt is because 7.1 is missing share buttons on the blog. It really is odd that they left this off at launch. I thought they would work because I saw the settings before I built out the blog page. 😞

Two months ago, I asked Squarespace when they plan to have built-in share buttons on product pages on Squarespace 7.1. I received this: "For share buttons,  we don't have any public plans on whether we're adding that or not in the foreseeable future." Very disappointed. I guess we'll have to find a way on our own....😒

That was my exact experience with Squarespace late last year, which I mentioned earlier in this discussion. I have friends with deep pockets who have asked me about Squarespace 7.1, people who are familiar with my old 7.0 site and are impressed with the new one. I've told them all that while I truly do love the new platform, it lacks a native share option. This has been a dealbreaker for all but one. I must admit, however, I haven't told that one person yet. She's looking forward to signing up for 7.1 and I completely forgot to tell her because she was so enthusiastic about it. I don't have the heart to tell her right now. She sells art for tens of thousands of dollars (and more), could you imagine a visitor not being able to quickly share something like that?

Just this evening, my sister asked me a few questions about 7.1, because the person she hired to build a website for her company suggested WordPress instead. Though she understands that WordPress is a lot more work than Squarespace, she doesn't have much confidence in 7.1 because of the lack of (in her words) "a simple function that even crappy websites have".

I'm paying for share buttons thanks to someone here in this discussion, but I really would rather not.

I'm trying to figure out a way to add social sharing buttons through code injection on squarespace 7.1 because it doesn't have share buttons. I think there's a way I can manually add at least a like button through say facebook's "like button configurator" but it would be a manual add to every blog post through a code block. I've been told I could circumnavigate this through code injection but I don't know how to change the code to make it a different link for every blog post. Can anybody help me? Here's the code I'm trying to modify to recognize individual blog posts:

<div class="fb-share-button" data-href="https://inktractor.com/fiction" data-layout="button" data-size="small"><a target="_blank" href="https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Finktractor.com%2Ffiction&amp;src=sdkpreparse" class="fb-xfbml-parse-ignore">Share</a></div>

@Ophelia123 thank you so much for your help!!! Super easy!

Hi Guys, so I was having the same issue for version 7.1 (so crazy they took it away). Here is how to add share buttons if you haven't found out already:

1. Go to https://sharethis.com/platform/share-buttons-2/?utm_source=googleadwords&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Search_NB_SocialShare&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6LSrjKmX6AIVkg4rCh3MGwfQEAAYASAAEgIGXfD_BwE

2. It's super easy, but after you select Activate Now, scroll down and click "customise your share buttons" to pick and choose those you want and don't want, and to change their look and location. Unforuntately they don't have any nice sexy buttons, just the standard, but at least you have them.

3. I only wanted them on my blog posts, so for each blog, I added the code to Settings -- Advanced -- Post Blog Item Code Injection. But you could do the same for any page you want to add them to.

4. And it's done. It's free by the way, you just have to register.

Thank you for this information!

I have a problem on the sharethis site. after I selected "Activate Now" and clicking "customise your share buttons" it dosn't let me pick and choose those I want and don't want.

Has anyone had or solved this problem, too?

Thank you!

Any ideas on how to accomplish this on Personal Pages (i.e. no javascript)?

As with everyone else, I'm flabbergasted and outraged that not only is this not a Squarespace feature, and not even only that you have to use custom code to add it, but on top of all that, since javascript is excluded with personal accounts, most of the sharing buttons you find such as those shared in this thread can't even be used. Absolutely ridiculous. Squarespace, if I'm paying you almost 20 bucks a month, I ought to get the basics of a good site, which includes social sharing buttons. This plus the fact that they don't autosave blog posts as they're being written is just ludicrous for such a big-name platform.

ANYWAY

I would also greatly appreciate if anyone has a resource for no-javascript sharing buttons, thanks.

As a newcomer to Squarespace and website building altogether, I find it so surprising that companies would take away functionality that their customers want and they already have/had! It feel like a not-fun mind game!

In any case, until Squarespace enables the share buttons for 7.1, I found this tutorial from @christyprice easy to follow. Also, it's freehttps://christyprice.com/squarespace-tips-tricks/add-social-share-buttons-squarespace-blog

We've already discussed ShareThis and have different reasons for not wanting to use it, but mine is because it still has the exact same look it had back in the oo's. Yes, it works and it's free, but it's ugly .

Here's a great blog post on how to embed social media share buttons on individual pages:

https://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/29544/the-ultimate-cheat-sheet-for-creating-social-media-buttons.aspx

This is an even worse idea than ShareThis, which allows you to embed multiple share buttons all in one shot. No one has the time to embed each social media share button for every one of their blog entries.

Would getting intricate with some CSS assist though? My idea is perhaps to cover the Blog Post Title/Item Title on the Blog Page, after which Manually Add the H1's on the pinnacle of the publish. Would there be a few way to nonetheless display the date and category tags?

Hey, any luck with a CSS solution? I just found out social sharing buttons for products aren't included in 7.1, after I finished building out virtually every other aspect of my site. Infuriating!

Word - being unable to autosave blog posts is terrible! That in addition to blog post line spacing being wack AF in SS.

Not sure if this has been addressed already (in this thread or other). I just injected ShareThis buttons onto blog post pages, but it also shows up on the Blog Archive page (ugh). Any CSS solutions on removing it from Blog Archive?

Thanks all.

Please post the URL to your blog archive.

If your site is not public please set up a site-wide password, if you've not already done so. Post the password here.

We can then take a look at your issue.

What is whack about it? Do you know about shift return for going to a new line without creating a new paragraph?

Hey. My site is: https://the-movementexplorer.com/blog . The ShareThis CSS was easy to install (except I have yet to fix the look on my Blog Archive page).

Actually, no. I will try that. I've been copy & pasting my text from Google Docs into SS Blog - it messes up the line spacing. I've also heard that it's a good idea to Ctrl+Shift+V text into SS Blog Posts, but I choose not to do so because it takes away links, italicization, or bolded text.

Add the following to Design > Custom CSS.

#collection-5fa4d161decac3732b0e8846 #st-2 {

  display: none;

  }

Let us know how it goes.
