M-Saleck reacted to paul2009 in Developer Mode still useful?
The Squarespace Developer Platform (including Developer Mode) was only available on version 7.0 - the previous version of Squarespace.
You can choose to build a new site on version 7.0, but you'll miss out on many of the Squarespace features that are available on the current version - version 7.1:
Improved SEO Fluid Engine - the next generation website design tool. Better language support and integrated third party translation with Weglot.  Colours and consistency are much easier to manage with Colour Themes and section backgrounds Many new design features (too many to mention!) including text highlights, animations, section dividers, background art, new cart icons and more. You can design more quickly by copying content with saved sections You can add video backgrounds hosted on Squarespace (no need for YouTube or Vimeo) If you plan to sell your work online, 7.1 also has:
Store page support for up to 10,000 products (instead of 200 products on version 7.0) New Product Detail Page layouts

The file size limit for a digital download product is 300 MB.
There isn't any overall "storage limit" on Squarespace. Someone may have been confusing it with another platform.
    I hope that helps.

There are no plans to release a replacement for 7.1, so there's no need to worry about a new version coming out. All updates are incremental and are automatically added to 7.1 sites. No user action is necessary.

M-Saleck reacted to Jo_SQSP in Using anchor links: why and how?
Anchor links or page jumps are a vital component to any website, but specifically important for those websites that are text-heavy or have a lot of content on a single page. In essence, an anchor link is a special URL that takes you to a specific place on a page. They’re useful for letting your visitors skip to the parts of your content that interest them, and they’re a great organizational device that aids readability. As an added bonus, they help with SEO too.
In Squarespace, there are two types of anchor links you can use, depending on the version of our platform you’re using. For example, if your site is on the Squarespace 7.0 platform, you can create anchor links on Index Pages using the steps in the guide Adding index page anchor links. If your site is on the 7.1 version, you can add a small custom code snippet and create an anchor link on Layout Pages. Check out our guide Creating anchor links.
Before stuffing your Main Navigation with anchor links, there are some considerations you need to take into account. For example, too many items in your navigation can be aesthetically overwhelming and become a hindrance to readers. Links that are too close together can be a problem on mobile, specifically for visitors with limited hand mobility.
How do you use anchor links on your website? Do you have any special practices or tricks? Let us know in the comments below!

M-Saleck reacted to JoanGarroway in Pin Language Switcher to Header
    Hey, @Matthew26
(Q1) So you want to jazz up that language switcher, right? To fix it to the header and align it with the shop icon, you'll want to tweak the CSS. Maybe play with the 'position' and 'right' values in the CSS. Messing around with 'position: fixed' and 'right: [some pixels]' might do the trick.
(Q2) For a snazzier look, a toggle button with just EN and DE sounds cool
You'd need to modify the HTML and CSS for that. Add a button element and style it in the CSS to your liking. You could replace the 'English | Deutsch' links with buttons styled the way you want.
(Q3) To float it in the bottom left corner, adjust the 'position' and use 'bottom' and 'left' values in the CSS. Making it sticky might involve adding some 'position: sticky' magic. For the hamburger menu, you'd likely need to dig into Squarespace's structure and maybe inject the button there using code.
Keep experimenting, highlight my nickname if you need to spell out specific examples by code👾

Your website is good, it's clean and professional looking. It's easy to navigate and you have great photos.
You could probably optimise the mobile experience, elements like the logos in the footer end up very big so you could either use the fluid engine upgrade there to control the mobile view or use a gallery instead of individual image blocks.
If you want a starting point for checking your on-page SEO set up, run a free scan on SEO Space (link in my signature) and take on board their advice.
Oh and you may want to update the copyright year.

@OAY You can create a member site that people need to sign up for to access (paid or free, your choice), however you'll need to use a third-party forum plugin, like https://www.websitetoolbox.com/ - there are quite a few out there that I'm sure will differ in the pricing and features

No, you cannot add anything to the checkout page. This page is locked down.
That said, it would be unusual to send customers back at the checkout stage as you want them to checkout without distraction.
It is more usual to offer a Continue Shopping button at the cart stage.

M-Saleck reacted to JessicaM in Seeking feedback on business website - why is my google page speed score so low, particularly on mobile?
    Hey @ryannell!
    Here's my suggestions -
    - Definitely swap the navigation so that it's at the top instead of the side. No one likes to read with their head tilted 90 degrees 🙂
    - I would consider a different color palette. The two colors don't really compliment each other, nor are they very attractive colors! I know it's the same colors in your logo, but maybe it's time for a logo refresh too?
    - Although I like this image of the mountains, I would probably swap it for something else that is more in line with what you do. Because at first glance, it looks like you are a mountain climbing company, lol. I think having images of people looking peaceful would go further because people who land on your site will see that image and think 'I want that'.
    - I would also have a different tag in the header instead of "rising together since 2018". It's fine to include that line somewhere else, but the header is prime real estate to show people how you can solve their problem. The fact that you've been in business since 2018 won't compel them to click the "book now" button - but a sentence that explains how you solve their problem will.
    - I would remove the moving buttons in the "I'm Searching For" section... to me, this falls into that "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" category 🙂
    - On the section with the logos, I would probably make that whole section a white background and then have the logos on it (without the circles). I would spread them out into a couple of lines so that it isn't so cramped.
    - Some of the text is a little hard to read against the background in the Reach New Heights section.
    - One thing I'm seeing is that there are a lot of options. For example, the header gives them 3 options of buttons to click. The Reach New Heights section has 2 options of buttons to click. People get overwhelmed with options - so I would consider having one button for each section.
    - The If You're Feeling Down section can be reworked... I wouldn't put a huge 4 paragraph section in the 2nd accordion. This info can go on a dedicated About page.
    - I understand tying things to the word "Levitate"...the mountains, the moving buttons, the wording, etc... but what is that? I mean, unless people are literally levitating, I would use words to actually explain what your services do... more peaceful, less stress, more calm, clearer mind, etc. People will identify with those words more than they will "lift each other" or "rise together".
    - Look at the spacing between the text and buttons in the How You Can Get Started section.... they aren't all even.
    - I would consider using a different font and adding a second font so that you can have one for headings and one for paragraphs. I do love Futura like you previously had! If your page is loading slow, it's probably because of large images instead of fonts. Check out SEOSpace - I use them for my site and they are GREAT at improving SEO and load times (there's a free version that works just fine).
    - There's a lot of accordion blocks on this page! I would trim that down a bit and find another design so that there is some variation in design.
    - The plus signs in the footer that expand need to go! If you do need all of these links, then I would create the footer with them already expanded so that people an easily find what they need instead of having to click 4 different drop downs to find the info.
Let me know if you have questions about anything 🙂

M-Saleck reacted to JessicaM in Seeking feedback on business website - why is my google page speed score so low, particularly on mobile?
    Hey @chuckEsleaze -
    Here's a few observations -
    - The pages are missing an H1 tag
    - Some pages are missing meta descriptions
    - Not all images have alt text (this could be effecting the accessibility component of your scan)
    - All of the external links need to be set to open up a new tab
    - Remove the dates on all of the quotes. They look outdated - especially the ones that go back to 2016. The words still ring true, so I would just take off the dates.
    - You could fit the header links on one row if the logo was smaller and the words weren't so long in the navigation links.
    - Some of the elements need more padding... like the testimonials at the bottom and the footer.
    Home page:
    - I would also do something different with the top image on the home page... instead of testimonials, that section should explain who they are and what they do. "Alaska's best defense attorneys" - or something. Also you'll probably need to put a box behind the text so that it can be read over the image. You can adjust the opacity of the box so that you still see the image.
    - Add more padding on "We know criminal law" section
    - On the home page, increase the width of the accordion blocks so that the text goes all the way from the left to right.
    - Our Philosophy section - the highlight looks off... it should either only be behind the bottom half of the text, or be behind the whole text (top to bottom)..it just looks weird with a tiny sliver of the text not having a box behind it. I think it would look nice to add some icons to each of these sections too.
Let me know if you have questions about any of these 🙂
