Tiny_Coast reacted to Jo_SQSP in Calls to Action- where and how?
Call to Action (or CTA) is a buzzword in the Marketing and Web Content fields these days. But, what actually is a CTA? Simply put, you’re inviting your visitors to take a desired action. It can range from two words (“Buy Now”) to two sentences, and its end goal could be anything - getting email subscribers, trial sign-ups, conversions, etc.
A well crafted CTA can determine not only whether people take the desired action, but also how many. For an effective CTA, you need to consider both the design and the placement. For the design you can consider questions like how long should it be? How do I want to format it so it pops? When it comes to placement options, you can choose to put it at the top of your website for maximum visibility. Or you might find that placing it after some contextual info makes it that much more impactful.
Do these decisions sound familiar to you? Tell us all about your learnings, tips and best practices on how to design powerful CTAs for a website and where to place them in the comments below!

    Hi there!

My name is Lexi - Co-Founder of Dynamo Ultima. I wanted to introduce myself!

I am a brand strategist, web designer & sales page expert! My fiance and I run our design studio together and have been for 8 years. We live in Portland, Oregon!
Right now our design studio offers two ways to work with us..

VIP Design Days: we create full brand + websites in Squarespace during these days for our clients!
Sales Page Lab: My newest program I am launching next month to help my clients and our audience learn to design converting, strategic and aesthetically beautiful sales pages for their launches!

I am really excited about the new Fluid Engine, I have been designing in Squarespace since 2013 - so this update is definitely going to change the game, I have had so many people ask me to design in ShowIt - but i've always loved Squarespace and have experience with code and am able to create completely custom sites in Squarespace. This update will help with a lot of the clients asking about Showit, now I can tell them Squarespace is able to do mostly the same thing!
Anyway, I have been on circle for a long time, but never introduced myself properly. :)

The website looks great!! And congratulations on the book and your success to date 🙂
A few observations, not even suggestions, but may be worth mentioning if you are looking to optimize for conversion:
The Journal Page - This isn't readily clear to me that this is meant to take on the form of a blog. Perhaps from the nav, i might think this is a second offering (like a graduate journal) for purchase. Perhaps the format, title, or location in nav could be updated.
Buy Now Page - I love the testimonial at the top but it takes up a lot of room above the fold. If i am ready to click the buy page, I might prefer to see the purchase options right away, without having to scroll or question if I am in the right place.
For the nav, i wonder if you could clean it up a bit so you can keep it all on one line. Perhaps you could have home, buy online, and buy in store, and reviews.  Not necessary, but if it was me personally, I would consider moving contact to the footer.  I might also consider moving journal to the footer, and adding content from the journal to other pages using the summary block.
Again, these are just a few observations. Your website and product are beautiful - well done and congrats 🙂

    Hi Alison,
I think your site is looking great. The colour palette is lovely - I really enjoy the earthy tones. In my opinion, some of the colours could be adjusted to make reading content (such as the navigation) a bit easier.  Aside from that, working on some of the alignment of text and photos could help add some extra polish 🙂 Not necessary, but you may also want to consider a logo at some point to help make your brand more recognizable. Great work so far and best of luck with everything.

Just rebranded our Psychotherapy Practice in NYC to LSP - https://lsp.nyc.  Squarespace made it easy to move to 7.1, but still not seeing a big improvement in load times, unfortunately.  Provided them that feedback and hope they continue to make improvements.  Great to see so many others learning how to use the platform effectively!

Great looking site (and book) but as a visitor from the 🇬🇧 UK, it was disappointing to see that it only ships to the US 🙂
It also wasn't obvious that scrolling down past the 1 book, 2 books, 5 books section led to alternative purchase options that weren't just greater quantities.

Hi, all...I co-wrote and published a book in March called "Dear Graduate." It was designed as a gift for graduates of any age. Instead of asking, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" it asks, "What will you do when you group up?"
We've received great feedback on the book, finding it strikes a nerve with a lot of people...in a good way. We're also distributing to a handful indie booksellers around the US.
I do marketing for a living and we acquired 6,800 visitors to the site. We converted many, but without knowing why people didn't buy the book, I'm trying to figure that out. Certainly some of it is that the book isn't for them (or doesn't move them), the price point, having to pay shipping, not being from a known publisher, etc.
Was curious if the Squarespace community might take a look and let me know if there is anything that you find is a turn-off or that wouldn't make you want to buy the book. We posted the full book online, as it really needs a way to be seen and read before buying. I know that helped sell books as well as likely inhibit others from purchasing it.
Appreciate any and all thoughts...and congratulations to all the graduates out there!

    Hi Hannah,
If I were in your position and my website was selling well and stopped rather abruptly, the first thing I would look at is my analytics. If you haven't made any major adjustments to your website, I'd want to take a look to see if traffic has dropped off significantly and if so, from what channels (social, paid, organic), and to what pages or products.  From there, you should have a better idea of how to address the problem.
If, however, traffic has remained consistent and your conversions (sales) have fallen dramatically, consider the usability of your site, and if you have made any changes recently to your overall navigation.
Hope that helps and best of luck wth everything 🙂

A tip that can be very helpful in determining what your audience is looking for is to also use Google Auto Complete. It will give you a sense of the keywords people are using and the problems they are trying to solve. This can be extremely helpful in how you structure your content, the headings, and keywords you use.
Consider how you can provide valuable content in the form of how-to guides. Make your content user friendly. For example, break down huge chunks of copy with headings, breakdown content into chapters or sections if necessary, and use anchor links so people can easily access the information most valuable to them.
Also be mindful of internal linking, and using external links that are of a high quality and recent.
As always, make sure not to be spammy with keywords, and write as you would naturally.

    1) Use headings to help google understand and prioritize your content and to help improve usability for website visitors.

    2) Don't create spammy copy for the sake of SEO. Also, don't get so caught up in clever copy that you miss out on SEO. Strive to create content that considers SEO and brand voice.

    3) Write as you naturally would. Yes, add headings and keywords, but do so in a way that it would happen organically.

Tiny_Coast reacted to RyanCaldarone in Tell us about your logo!
As a marketer copywriting is my foundation. Long Italian last names are also hard to spell, so early on I knew I needed a "brand" with a catchy domain that somewhat explains what I do. My niche is B2B business services companies so I knew I wanted a ".biz" domain.
Early on one of my clients gave me a testimonial where she said it was like "having a writer in your pocket".
    So I went with https://www.pocketwriter.biz/
For the logo, I wanted it to be:
Simple line work (easily swapped with color or on collateral) retro styled (just because I love the quirky ness of logos from the 50s-70s) needed to have my domain in the logo so people would know what to search for and have some visual element that incorporated either a pocket, or writing.  I'd worked with a graphic designers for years on collab projects, and he's phenomenal with logos. So I explained all of the above to him, and for some reason I also said "Oh and I'm really into vintage neon lights now, and love the way layered lines come together to form stuff".
    Somehow he nailed everything.
www.matchadesign.com is his website 🙂. If you reach out for a logo or anything else, tell him I sent you!

The first thing I do with clients regarding SEO (especially local serving small businesses) is to set up and/or claim their Google Business profile. Then include that on their site in some way. (my favorite review plugin is elfsight).
That helps tremendously. I also consider anything that helps raise the site's authority and EAT as SEO.
As far as just raw copy, here are my go-to list of things I always do with an initial pass.
Use correct headings only one H1 per page proper H2, H3, etc.  Contextual hyperlinks outside links that add value in context using natural words as the link anchor (not "click here") contextual internal links to relevant content that adds value (can be to other topic pages in the cluster, funnel, etc.) Real words and natural copy. Try to to be too spammy with keywords.  definitely do use appropriate keywords long and short take advantage that punctuation (full stops, commas, colons, etc.) do not influence keywords and keyword phrases Make the content on the page readable, especially on mobile new paragraph breaks every two sentences or so Add alt text to all images don't stuff them with keywords or short-hand understand that this text will be read by a computer generated reader into audio Take advantage of Squarespace's great GUI for SEO Review all those settings boxes and fill out excerpts, thumbnails, social sharing images, alt text, meta descriptions, nav titles, page titles, etc. Always update old content keep urls intact refresh old content with new information H2's are good opportunities for driving incoming traffic If a page's topic, subject, and H1 are inspired by a search query, scroll down to the bottom of the google results to see the "others searched these topics" links and use those as your H2s.  Make sure the H2's still make sense for the content on page Reference and link to known outside SME sources when relevant Use some third-party tools to eliminate poor quality backlinks When there's a good quality backlink, make a new post/page about it! Take advantage of third-party writing tools for copyediting My favorites are Grammarly Hemmingway App Editor AMI Headline Analyzer Reading the copy out loud to see if you stumble anywhere Pay attention to technical stuff search engines care about when ranking your content Font size too small for mobile Page images, banners, backgrounds, content too wide for window And other stuff that Google specifically calls out in performance guidelines from Search Console
I'm certain others have mentioned a bunch of the stuff I did, but I included it anyway because re-reading it helps me remember 😉

I find anchor links most useful for long-form blog content. I recently wrote this article https://tinycoastdigital.com/insights/2022-web-design-trends and went back and added anchor links when I realized it was a lot to scroll through if someone was only interested in exploring a few of the topics.
I also use anchor links in a few places on my website to take people straight to a services section and provide a more efficient experience.

I think the website looks great. My only suggestion would be to consider adding an arrow or a scroll-down prompt on the homepage if there is important info you want people to see. On desktop, I wouldn't have known intuitively to scroll down- I would have assumed there wasn't content under the "premium sound libraries" button and instead gone straight to the nav.
