When will Twitter links/icons (ex: Pages > Main Nav > Social Links) change to X?

Hi folks. With today's change from Twitter to X, when will the Twitter links and icons change to X? Do we need to change the bird icon to the X icon, or will it automatically switch? When?

I'm not aware of Squarespace being particularly quick in the past with a logo change for a social icon, I'm assuming for now it will remain as the bird, which may be a good thing... depending on your view of the rebrand from something recognisable to something generic.

As the tile says,

Now that twitter has rebranded to X, when will we have social links available that reflect this change?

Have you asked Squarespace directly by raising a ticket through Squarespace Customer Care.

Update October 2023: The “X” logo is now available when you add a social link beginning with “x.com”.

This is an upgrade my clients are starting to ask for. I could revert the social media icons set to my own custom images and add them to the footer but it would be great if squarespace simply updated their icon set.

Is there any news on when can we expect the new branding of Twitter to X to filter to our sites? Specifically for the icons to be amended. And in future, would we need to manually update the links? I believe the new branding guidelines is now publicly available.

Also hopefully Threads can be added soon.

We need this as soon  as possible. It’s clear that the transition from Twitter to X was not a joke and is very real, so still having the old Twitter logo no longer makes sense. Can we have the development team make this change?

My Clients are asking for this change now too. Do you think we'll get a notification if/ when it happens? 

It is something you can change with a little code, but not ideal with a dynamic header. 

Here's some CSS code for the desktop header if anyone wants it, though the PNG will need updating for colour and the Twitter URL will need customizing:

Why does this take so long for Squarespace to do????  So very frustrating as it is not difficult. Also, still waiting for Patreon logo and Threads. Are they asleep at the wheel?

We're awaiting this update, as well as the addition of icons for Patreon and Threads. 

SS has not shown an interest in keeping up with social icon display on their platform. Look at all the generic icons they apply to long established platforms like Discord and Patreon?

You can always get your feature requests in to customer service but don't hold your breath.

If you want it you'll need to code it.

Well looks like the folks over at Squarespace is updating this, right now when I go to put in our link to X it shows the correct logo and no more twitter bird:

The only thing is the logo does not show up in the header anymore, its blank, if you drag your mouse there you can actually click and it goes to our X page, but no one would know it's even there:

Same for everyone else?

No. I still see the bird icon everywhere.

Some thoughts. This could be rolling out now. It could be an A/B test. It could be custom code.

I have the same thing.... I can see the X in the editing panel, but on the site it is invisible!

Coding just seems to be a bit cumbersome to do for so many clients website. Is SS on this yet? Clients are asking.

You need to Update your URL to get the new logo...do not use "twitter.com" use "X.com" that is what did it for me, easy...dare I say "as it should be" 🙃

So everyone is good to go, this is no longer an issue for everyone?

Not sure on the x.com yet... but for the footer -- if anyone's still interested -- I used font awesome

x.com is working for me! Thank goodness. That was becoming a bit of a pain for clients insisting on using the X logo! Thanks Squarespace 🙂
