  1. While transferring a fleet of Squarespace domains, including DNS settings (Google, Mailchimp etc.), over to another Registrar of choice (where I now get excellent support) as part of this learning process (quite tough) I learned about separating DNS and using a different name server. I chose deSEC.io and I have found this to be very valuable and free. So Squarespace is complemented by deSEC.io. Optionally you can donate to deSEC.io. Firstly very carefully copy and backup the DNS settings in your Squarespace domain. Sign up to deSEC.io and set deSEC as your name server (not Squarespace Google DNS settings - ditch those). Watch the dots needed at end of hostname strings pasted. I have ditched the Google name server settings and Mailchimp mail server settings (transferred into Squarespace) and now I have my custom settings which are under my control. I also integrated other SMTP and IMAP servers as alternative to default Mailchimp. One safety point I would suggest. If you have a working site using Squarespace DNS settings I do not advise that your "learn the DNS ropes" on your working site. Instead create a second domain in Squarespace and first set that up using deSEC et al. This can be your experimental domain. Or you might create a subdomain for this purpose. . "
  2. I found this where you can vent your frustration but I don't think it will help. https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.squarespace.com Class actions are fodder for lawyers. You can write .. yes write in this day and age .. to Squarespace Inc. CEO Anthony Casalena Headquarters 225 Varick Street New York City, New York, United States Recently I subscribed to a system to post physical letters from desktop. Might try it to write to CEO.
  3. Similar experience here since end of June. My email forwarding was working in Google Domains. I believe through Mailgun. Forwarded to my desktop Thunderbird client. But after transfer to Squarespace all hell let loose. Lost a forwarding link and had to approach various vendors to switch that address (for login) to a gmail account. I learned a hard lesson not to use a forwarding address linked to a domain going through transfer. My blunder but I needed to learn that lesson. Always have a backup route. n+1 redundancy or don't put all eggs in one basket. There are multiple links in chain. Some messages from end of June have been lost. I opened an account with deSEC.io and use that as my name server now. I can edit DNS records there. Such as MX for mailforwarding. Unbinding from Squarespace. I am of an age where I remember Flash Gordon.
  4. David and Goliath problem. Not a lawsuit. This would be my line of attack. Falling Shareholder value due to poor customer comments (here). Some of Squarespace's top shareholders include: Accel Partners LLC: Held 16.18% of shares Wellington Trust Co., NA: Held 13.56% of shares General Atlantic LLC: A major shareholder The Vanguard Group, Inc. A top shareholder BlackRock, Inc. A top shareholder State Street Global Advisors, Inc. A top shareholder Balyasny Asset Management L.P.: A top shareholder Charles Schwab Investment Management, Inc. A top shareholder In May 2024, Squarespace agreed to be acquired by Permira, a British private equity firm, for $6.9 billion in an all-cash deal. The deal was approved by major shareholders, CEO Anthony Casalena, and was financed with help from Ares and Blackstone.
  5. I am remaining partly with Squarespace and a few domains since there might be potential later with learning templates. But I am breaking the padlock and over time transferring part domains portfolio held to an agile Registrar LAYERSHIFT although their control panel has fewer features. As a solo developer I value human support not chatbots (although I do resort to my own AI helper). When trying to track down one domain lost in the transfer of Google Domains to Squarespace I offered proof of ownership and ended up receiving Squarespace support mails first from Australia and then Hawaii. I kid you not. Domain is still in a black hole not showing on my panel. Another lesson learned is not to put all your eggs in one basket. Registrar (dual), hosting (dual), DNS, certificates (dual), email, CDN. I have created my own mix. For example deSEC.io as name server. ZeroSSL for SSL certificates. ZoneEdit another. The transfer out of Squarespace in now well oiled and workflow honed but takes up to 5 days per domain. Four transferred so far. My interest is analysing failure in processes and Google-Squarespace presents a good test case. again - don't keep all your eggs in one basket. Orchestrate. I don't think that paying fat fees to lawyers is the answer. My in birth business communications MX forwarding (previously via Mailgun) was also broken end of June due to this unforeseen chain of events. Simply create more publicity of failings and give your views to regulators such as Nominet etc. Founders unite.
  6. I fell into that bear trap. To get out I have transferred one domain to another registrar where I hope I have more control by reregistering with email address not in domain MX records. Downside is it takes days to transfer.
  7. I have not got as far as coding in SquareSpace although my domains were transferred from Google. Since I prefer custom coding rather than Templates I would look at libraries such as JQueryUI and jqwidgets (there are others).
  8. Second that opinion. I am not happy with SquareSpace managing critical domains. I am still waiting after days for the first of a number of domains to transfer to LAYERSHIFT where I maintain my custom environments. There seems to be no way of tracking the transfer. Next job (apparent from other pressures) is to build an automation script for transferring my full set of domains. Bad move on part of Google to divest their responsibilities.
  9. I have just started this process transferring to LayerShift. 00.00 hours GMT 14th July. Postscript. Later received by email an authcode for transfer at 01.15 hours GMT. Mind you it was for a different domain in my collection. But we are getting there. I will probably end with at least two universes - LayerShift and SquareSpace where the rule is each that domain and hosting service are under one roof for integrated support. There might be other "roofs". Registrar+Hosting. One plan I have in back of my mind from this experience is to use automation scripts to navigate easily through this jungle.
  10. I'm glad that I have just joined this forum to read this thread. I have a batch of dormant domains recently transferred from Google Domains and I am experiencing learning problems in purging legacy forwarding rules in an attempt to start again. When I “save” changes a popup message pops up then promptly disappears. I'll try the incognito tip afresh tomorrow. Is there a bug vault somewhere?
