lw64
On Squarespace domains, I can't redirect the naked domain to the www domain. When I try putting @ (for the root domain) in the subdomain to forward from, and anything, whether it is https://www.tock.life/ or https://sites.google.com/view/tockapp, it errors and says Unable to save this domain forwarding rule There was a problem with saving your changes. Please try again later. OKAY sophiec, OnlineMan, diplomasurconnect and 1 other 4 Link to comment

lw64
Adding Custom DNS Record with Host "@," Type "A," and Data "174.129.25.170" seems to be a working solution for right now, as WWWizer gives a free naked domain redirect to www through it. Try here: http://tock.life/ Still open for any other solutions though sophiec, ozeke1, imcinerney6 and 3 others 1 5 Link to comment
imcinerney6
I have been running into this exact issue. Thanks for the workaround as that seems to have worked 🫡 sophiec 1 Link to comment
imcinerney6
That being said... It would be great if there is some explanation of why adding a redirect through squarespace doesn't work and/or if there is a preferred way of solving this problem. diplomasurconnect 1 Link to comment
sophiec
Same problem here. Will try the workaround suggested above. Link to comment
ILIA
This is still a problem for me as well; I can set up redirects on any subdomain name I want, but not for the root domain somehow, getting that totally unhelpful error message. I need to use domains as redirects to our Google Sites, which I have been able to do on Bluehost and on Google Domains, but I would be concerned if after Google Domains is fully transferred to Squarespace I would lose that capability. sophiec and Google_Domain_User 2 Link to comment
ArmandRose
Having the same issue. Got the domain to reroute to my wife's etsy store but it won't let me add it. Link to comment
Solution ArmandRose Posted November 13, 2023 Solution Share Posted November 13, 2023 Just finished a chat with support. Had to delete the default DNS info under domain management then it let me add the redirect. sophiec and ILIA 2 Link to comment
JulianGil
Thank you, ArmandRose. I just did this and it worked for me as well. I deleted "Squarespace Defaults" and it worked. I really appreciate you posting your solution here. Link to comment
HugoCordeiro_USA
Thanks, @JulianGil. It worked for me as well. Link to comment
danieljodeci
Deleted my squarespace defaults under Edit DNS and still unable to redirect my root domain to my www subdomain. Any suggestions on what else I can try? AlbinBoiteux, diplomasurconnect and whitedeer 3 Link to comment

Contact their tech support, resolved by adding one more "A" in DNS setup, the IP is square's internal IP and I waited 2 days for the data populated: @ A N/A 198.185.159.144 sophiec 1 Link to comment
imcinerney6
I thought maybe this issue was just limited naked root redirects to www, but squarespace currently just doesn't handle *any* root redirects diplomasurconnect 1 Link to comment
imcinerney6
@Web_Solutions Do you have any idea about this? Is this just a squarespace bug? Tagging you, because you are a circle member and are a popular poster in this forum category Link to comment
heartofnight
Help please. Google sites won't work without www. prefix in a new browser and forwarding root domain gives "unable to save this domain forwarding rule error" as mentioned above diplomasurconnect 1 Link to comment
themergoger
I have the same issue and I have tried everything stated above and nothing has worked I have tried a number of times to get in contact with squarespace and have not gotten any help regarding this issue. If not fixed soom I may transfer my domain to another company. diplomasurconnect 1 Link to comment
stompycat
Any updates? The forwarding isn’t working and neither is the WWWIzwer workaround. diplomasurconnect 1 Link to comment
hbee
Having the same problem. Has anyone been able to get in touch with Squarespace for support/a workaround? My existing subdomains seem to be forwarding fine but I can't add any new ones without getting the " "unable to save this domain forwarding rule" message. Link to comment
