Google Workspace Broke My Site?

Go to solution Solved by paul2009,

Hello all,

I took the plunge and integrated Google Workspace into my Squarespace site. As of last night, everything looked as if it was ok. I followed the poor instructions to the tee(side note: Google needs to really evaluate how the instructions were written). This morning I was testing the email to make sure it works and lucky me,,, I was greeted with a "This site can’t be reached" page. Has anyone else had the same issue. Now, keep in mind is that I went around Squarespace because I was unable to use their sign in feature. I kept getting a blank page or a try again message so I signed up through Workspace and then went back and linked it to Squarespace. Bottom line.... Help!!!

      Thanks,

As a starting point, please provide us with details of your primary domain and your built-in Squarespace domain.

Also, it would help if you could explain in greater detail what you mean when you say “I…integrated Google Workspace into my Squarespace site…keep in mind is that I went around Squarespace”. What did you follow? What did you change? Are are you referring to the use of your domain name for Gmail, or does “integrating” refer to something else?

Sure!

Here is a screen grab, I have redacted the verification key for security purposes. Through the domain section you access the DNS settings and remove the Squarespace default preset and add in the Google Workspace presets. My goal was to get a custom domain email to separate out my personal email from my business email. My initial thought was to sign up through Squarespace to capitalize on the free year of Google Workspace you get. However, I tried several time to do so with no luck. I would click the link and it would take me to either a blank page or a page that said something went wrong with a try again button. I had given up on the prospect of signing up through Squarespace at all. I took the time to set up a Google Workspace account independently. The nice thing is that Google takes the time to give you a step by step guide to make it work.

As for the domain itself, I purchased it through Squarespace and subsequently built a website through Squarespace. The only real hurdle I had was getting a professional email attached to the website. It was only after I followed the instructions from Google that things seem to have fallen apart. The MX presets seem to have been applied correctly. the Google Verification seems to have worked. Workspace recognizes the Squarespace domain as well. I guess to me, it seems like Google and Squarespace are communicating correctly. I know i messed something up, I am just not sure where or what.

Built in domain: anthony-dykema.squarespace.com

Primary domain: anthonyjamesdykemaphotography.com

Hopefully I answered all of your questions Sir. If i left something out or you need more information let me know and I will do my best. I am fairly new at this.

      Thank you

Your site is not reachable because you have removed the Squarespace defaults preset, which has deleted the essential DNS records that are required for the website 🙂. To restore the records:

  1. Open the Domains panel
  2. Click your domain name
  3. Click DNS settings
  4. Select Squarespace defaults from the Add preset drop-down menu.
  5. Click Add

Hi,

Sorry to hijack the thread here, I attempted to connect our website to a site to host PDF documents linked to our domain and now my Squarespace defaults have disappeared and when I try to restore the Squarespace defaults using the suggestion above it says that "We were unable to add these records. Try again later. If this problem continues, contact Customer Support"

I have contacted customer support but I'm no longer able to send or receive emails as our emails are also connected to our domain so I can't see when they respond to me to help.

I have also contacted the other company involved in the hosting of PDF's mentioned above and they're unable to help because their preset records weren't added during the change either.

If you could please help it would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Hey there, I noticed this thread, and I know it's old, but I just wanna add my 2 cents in here. So, that "This site can't be reached" hassle might be a DNS mismatch. Peek into your settings; they occasionally pull a vanishing act. Now, Squarespace's sign-in issue - I've been there, too. Blank pages and the "try again" loop are a pain. Try a quick fix by clearing cookies or switching browsers. Speaking of workspace, do you guys use loop backup for your Microsoft data? I need to secure mine, and I'm now exploring different options. Anyway, good luck there!
