Using Squarespace Extensions FAQ

Recommended Posts

While every Squarespace site has powerful tools to help you build your brands and online stores right out of the box, you can add third-party tools to enhance your site and streamline key tasks. These third-party tools are called Squarespace Extensions, and they’re vetted by our team.

We’ve collected some common questions we receive about our Extensions: Grow your business with add-on tools webinar, and boiled them down into five frequently asked questions to help you out.

  1. What are Squarespace Extensions?

Squarespace Extensions are a collection of third-party tools that were designed to enhance the functionality of your site and to simplify your workstreams in a number of areas. For example, there are extensions for drop shipping, sales tax compliance, SEO, and social media marketing.

All extensions are vetted by Squarespace and you can think of them as plugins, add-ons, or apps for your site.

Please note, while Squarespace Extensions are vetted by Squarespace, they’re built by third-parties, so supporting them is outside the scope of our support. We can help with connecting or disconnecting them, but please contact the extension provider directly for all other questions.

  1. What kinds of Extensions are there?

The Extensions Directory is organized into four categories: shipping & fulfillment, finance, inventory & products, and sales & marketing. Let’s talk about the types of extensions you’ll find in each of these categories.

Shipping & fulfillment

As the category name suggests, you can add shipping & fulfillment extensions to your site to boost your shipping processes. Shippo, for example, is an extension you can use to get discounted shipping rates, use automations to speed up your processes, and import all of your orders from your Squarespace site.

Finance

Extensions within the finance category can help you manage your sales tax collection and accounting workflows. Many merchants use TaxJar to automate sales tax calculation on their online stores.

Inventory & products

Extensions within the inventory & products category can help you with inventory management and even introduce a new passive revenue stream to your business. For example, you can connect Custom Merch by Printful to your site to start selling custom products. Printful will create and ship the product as orders come in so you don’t have to worry about overhead costs or excess inventory.

Sales & marketing

If you’re looking to enhance your sales and marketing efforts, you can find relevant extensions in the sales & marketing category. With Delighted, you can create completely custom post-purchase feedback surveys to be sent to your customers automatically after fulfillment. Delighted syncs orders, billing, shipping, and custom form data to give you more context and increase the actionability of feedback.

  1. Where can I learn more about extensions?

There are a variety of articles and locations where you can learn more about Extensions. To explore the current list of Extensions, visit the Extensions Directory. In the directory, you can browse through all available extensions, click on them to learn more about the specifics, and start connecting. You can also find Extensions within your site under Settings > Third Party Tools > Extensions. Here you can easily manage your Extensions connections and discover new tools to grow your business.

You can also visit our MAKING IT blog to learn more about what extensions can help you do with your site. This blog article is a deep dive into each category of tools and offers a great overview.

We also have a help article that explains how to use Squarespace Extensions, including connection instructions and extension availability.

  1. Do extensions cost money?

There is no additional cost through Squarespace to connect extensions, but some third-party tools require their own subscriptions. That said, there are many extensions that offer base plans starting at $0 per month. As you scale your online store, you can assess whether upgrading your extension plan will serve you better.

To see the price of a specific extension, find it within the Extensions Directory and click on it to view more details.

  1. How do I add an extension to my site?

While you don’t need to connect extensions to be a successful seller on Squarespace, they can help you automate processes so you can focus on growing your business. To connect an extension:

  1. Open the Extensions panel
  2. Browse for the extension you’re looking for and click the one you’re looking for
  3. Click Connect to site and select the site you’re connecting it to
  4. Click Allow to grant the service the permission they need
  5. Follow the steps on the service’s site to complete the set up
