Reducing padding on gallery section, no section id's working with css

Hello everyone, 

I cannot for the life of me get my css to work with any of my section id's 😞

I am mainly trying to reduce the white space/padding on certain sections.

For example the gallery slide show at the top of the page has a huge amount of empty space between the navigation bar and section underneath it. I have already set the lowest height I can on the site styles/section but doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

Can anyone let me know how to tighten this up and get things looking a little more clean? Any help is very much appreciated.

I have been playing around with it but seem still seem to be having some trouble. 

How can I get it to look like the example in this picture?

Basically a slide show that does not exceed the size of the navigation bar (a little overhang on the nav bar is okay) and has a normal height.

The results I get it ends up being either way too big or too small with the picture cropped.
