Subscription Service/Product Renewals: Email Notifications

Recommended Posts

Our nonprofit website sells memberships that can be purchased via a monthly subscription (built into our commerce site as a subscription service). The challenge lies in the fact that every month when each individual monthly subscription renews every month, we (as well as the purchaser) receive a "New Order" notification email. This looks exactly the same as a genuine New Order and there is no way to easily differentiate between the two. Our volunteers have to compare the name/email address within the order to our current member list to determine if this is in fact a New Order or actually a renewal disguised as one. This is tedious and time consuming... and seems so unnecessary! I'm guessing we are not the only ones frustrated by this (shocking) limitation. Squarespace does not offer us an option to modify the content of the renewal email notifications. Is there any sort of coding workaround that could accomplish this??!! I'm getting desperate over here for any sort of fix!

The subscription service is in its early days. These confirmations are generated in this way because it assumes (incorrectly in your case) that the subscriptions are for physical products. If you were selling subscriptions for chocolate bars, you’d want to receive this reminder to ship another one. However in your case, they aren’t helpful. Sadly there isn’t a solution (coding or otherwise) for this, so you’ll need to contact Squarespace to make a feature request. As you’ve posted this on the public forum (rather than the Circle) I’ll DM you some info.

We are also having this issue, 2 years later, I understand that its good to get a reminder but can't it be worded 'order/subscription renewal' rather than 'new order'.

We are using our store for subscription to a digital product, which we send out on the new order and don't have to the following months.

The team are just seeing 'new order' and think they have to send another product out.

How do I contact Squarespace to make a feature request?

You can make a feature request by contacting Squarespace Customer Care. Although, don't hold your breath. I requested this feature two years ago. Previous feature requests have taken six years.

There haven’t been any changes to subscription renewals.
