Yup that is exactly how I would approach it. They could even do the same for CSS so it creates an optimised CSS file for only the rendered components making it very streamlined.

Maybe they need a save and a publish so when it is published it creates the final optimised files.
Imagine how good it would be for their brand if they could truly say that Squarespace is at the forefront and creates truly optimised sites that perform well on CWS. Huge win!

I would love to any links, posts etc showing how other platforms such as Wix, Shopify, Webflow, Wordpress solve this major issue.

Digging into the setting for that Codepen you may need to include some extra scripts and css in the header of your page. Click the Settings button top right to see them all, there are two javascript files and two css libraries which may all slow down your page load.

Have you tried using the new Automated lists in Squarespace 7.1, there is one that will work well as a carousel similar to what you are looking for (Bottom right one could do the trick). 

I made a blank Squarespace 7.0 page (except for the header and footer of course) and managed to get a score of 51!

The main roadblock seems to be the large amount of javascript files loaded even if the page doesn't use them. I hope these are not used for editing the site and are only used for the live view.... if not they should be separated.

I noticed that a local New Zealand web agency launched this site built on Wordpress: https://alzheimers.org.nz/

Applying the bob-shadow to the .intrinsic class is the issue as this is not always the same size as the image on those tablet sized screens.

I am struggling to get some custom code working that creates a drop shadow on Card layout images.

I had to apply the css to the .intrinsic class otherwise it seems to be cut off. The problem is on Tablet view and some smaller laptop sizes it doesn't remain the same size as the image and doesn't work.

I have attached screens to demonstrate. I need to somehow get the box-shadow working on the img tag if possible.

The CSS is below:

This is coming from someone with only a small amount of SEO knowledge so sorry if it is too simplistic.

Is there a rank of say the top 5 SEO metrics to get right and the weighting? Such as 1. Content, 2. Mobile experience, 3. Site loading speed, 4. Bounce rate

Ideally everything is perfect but if you cant get everything perfect what should we put the most effort into?

At the end of the article is a very good point:

I have just created a brand new, super light weight page for a client and it ranks terribly on the Google Pagespeed tool. 34% on mobile! The page has one small image and just plain text.

Most of the issue is the compressed javascript as you can see in the image attached.

I have no idea what to do about it.

They have a div stretched to full screen and use css to change the background image at different break points. I think this will be a simple solution 🙂

I have a customer after a custom mobile view for their home page.
They want have a totally different background image loaded. Is this possible somehow? I would love some ideas and a solution and happy to work with a third party contractor if needed.

There has been plenty of UX research and they found that they never really worked well.

Most people never saw the second slide so if it was important content it may get missed. Still depending on the circumstances they can work well. They do slow down the page load though.

I have been asked by a client to quote for improving the SEO for a website.

One part is to improve the page speed especially on mobile. I can do things like decrease the image size, remove images, simplify the fonts and review any custom code.

I am wondering if there is a speed difference between Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1?

Has anyone assessed this?

Hi team,

A web developer colleague has put me onto this google speed testing tool: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

I have tested several of my Squarespace websites using the tool and they all get TERRIBLE ratings especially on mobile. 

Does anyone have advice on how to improve the ratings beyond making images smaller. We can't improve the format yet so that is out but what else can we do.

Has anyone got an example of an ecommerce website with a large catalogue? I am thinking 80+ products in categories

I want to see if Squarespace can handle this catalogue size well and what it looks like to navigate for customers.

I would also love and comments or advice about running an ecommerce site of this size on Squarespace.

Is there an easy way to add multiple product variants? It seems that once you get to 3 options it is getting too large and complex.

I want to build a site for a PC company and they have custom PCs where you can change options such as:
Monitor, memory, hard drive, power unit and maybe more. Before I suggest Squarespace I want to make sure it is feasible to do this.

Advice and feedback would be much appreciated.
