If you have more than a few files, then I strongly recommend upgrading the v7.0 website to 7.1 using the free Squarespace version update tool as this will keep all the linked files and their URLs intact. The same is true for SEO, orders, sales, customer data, members, domains, and subscriptions. However, if you choose to build a new 7.1 site from scratch, to replace an older site, you must manually download each linked file, one-by-one from the old site and then upload each one to the new site. This must be done by visiting each link, on each page, directly from the website; not through the Squarespace UI. After downloading each file, you must then manually upload each one again, and re-link it using the Link Editor. It's a long and laborious task and the URL of each file will change afterwards.
