Anchor links not working on Safari

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

I've been trying to use anchor links following this tutorial --> https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/207135178?utm_source=chatbot#toc-limitations-and-best-practices

Which works perfectly on most browsers but not on Safari!

Example of the anchor link I created --> https://www.securecontainerrelease.com/scr-premium#scr-premium-pricing

Would anyone here know how to fix that?

Thanks!

I can report the same issue, anchor link as described by Squarespace does not work cross site, eg. Clicking anchor URL on page 1 will only jump user to page 2 but not to the anchor point on page 2, just on the top of the page.

Within the same page the anchor point is working well, even on safari as long as you remove the / in the url, eg. www.yoursite.com/subsite#anchorid instead of www.yoursite.com/subsite/#anchorid.

No issues in Firefox or Chrome, just in Safari Version 16.6 (18615.3.12.11.2)

for example for a button i used the code: page#unique code

/voorprofessionals#supervisie instead of /voorprofessionals/#supervisie , so whitout the / because than even in chrome it doesn't work.. and the injection code: <p id="supervisie"></p> .   I also tried to change the injection code starting with div but that didn'twork.  The strange thing is that everything worked 2 days ago...?

@Saasmic @Dieneke Can you try this:

http://www.sitename.com/page/#anchor

So for @Saasmic change the anchor link to:

 https://www.securecontainerrelease.com/scr-premium/#scr-premium-pricing

Basically use full url and add a "/" before the anchor link. Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Hi all,

My 70+ anchor links stopped working overnight after working for a year. They work great on Google Chrome but are not working at all on safari or mobile browsers.

I saw a few forums with this topic and am wondering if many people are experiencing broken anchor links on the safari or mobile browser?! My anchor links worked great for over a year. I installed a PipeDrive Chat bot to my header code and then the next morning NONE of the anchor linked buttons worked (over 70+ on my site). These buttons are linked to paid ads, marketing material and are crucial to get up and running again with over 60% of our viewers on safari/mobile browser (meaning none of the buttons are working for them).

Squarespace got a product specialist involved and is now saying "maybe you should not use anchor links" a very basic feature that all websites should be able to support. They are being slow on responding and I can't leave my website running with all these broken buttons and forms!

I would greatly appreciate any advice for https://www.outsidelife.com

Thank you for any help here!

It's a safari thing and not a Squarespace thing. I noticed it on my own site when Apple pushed out an update to Safari. They released a beta build of Safari for Ventura in the last week or so and every time they do that it breaks something. Not sure why it breaks the stable build but it does.

@sayreambrosio thanks for the reply. any idea how I should go about fixing it or am I just supposed to wait it out until Squarespace comes up with a solution? I'm worried about leaving it broken over the weekend

@Dieneke Yes, this is a compatibility issue specific to Safari. The solution I previously provided should still be effective. This problem is not limited to Squarespace websites alone, but rather affects various websites across the board.

There's really nothing Squarespace can do. As @Lesum said below. It's not just Squarespace sites that are having issues. I ran into it on Wix and a couple of other platforms today when looking at sites for clients. All in Safari. Used Chrome to check them as well and so far all the anchors work in Chrome on all the sites I checked.

Same issue is happening on my site. Though, its strange a few anchor links work and a few do not. This like for you all just started a day or two ago. Super frustrating, as my client is about to launch. I want to follow this thread. Hopefully Safari will come out with a fix soon.

www.integrated-awakening.com

The sub heading links that still work are About:FAQ and sometimes About:Contact works. The Services:Pricing does not work on Safari anymore. All anchor links work on Chrome though.

So the solution is just, don't use anchor links?? Seems like a basic function that a website should be able to perform across all browsers

It’s not a Squarespace issue. It’s a Safari issue. You need to contact Apple.

I have put the following id attribute in  the footer of the website (https://sweetdreamslittleones.co.uk):

<html>
<head>
<style>
h3 {text-align: center;}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<p id="15MIN"><h3>Request a free 30 minute call:</h3></p>
</body>
</html>

This is so that whenever anybody clicks on a "Request a free 30 minute call button" throughout the site, they will be taken to the footer.

The client also sends out the following link in her emails:  https://sweetdreamslittleones.co.uk/home#15MIN

This is so that the client can be taken directly to the footer to request a free call.

This link and the p id attribute work perfectly in chrome, but they have stopped working on iOS devices.  Does anyone know why this is, and if there is an easy way to resolve this problem?

Thanks
