You can password a page, but not just a single image, so the answer is create a page, password it and put that image on it by itself and put that page in the unlinked section of your website. You can link to that page from a text link or button which can be added to any other page. I think though you may have thought of this already. 

To set a page password:
  1. In the Home Menu, click Pages.
  2. In the Pages panel, select a page to protect with a password.
  3. Click the to the right of the page's title to open page settings.
  4. Scroll down to Password and enter a password in the field.
  5. Click Save.
