Summary for Gallery in 7.1

Does anyone know a way to use something like the summary feature for galleries? I'm working in 7.1

I'm an artist creating a portfolio website and would really love a "summary" grouping of images on my home page that pull randomly from my various galleries, and then link back to that gallery. 

I think the summary feature may be the closest option but it seems like the ability to connect it to galleries was pulled from support.

The gallery summary is not included with 7.1 only blog summaries. So what some folks do is use a second blog page, placed in the unlinked section of your site as a gallery substitute, then you create a new page with a summary block pulling from that second blog being used as a gallery page. The only other option for 7.1 is to buy a plug in that provides a summery from galleries.
