Adding product options

Hi-

I have a situation in commerce that I can't quite figure out.   We are selling cloth masks that are mostly finished with the only remaining step be to add cloth ties or elastic straps.   Is there a way to list a product and then have an option to add something at the end for an additional cost without listing multiple variants for the same thing?  

What we do right now is say that an item has an inventory of 10.  We list it with 2 variants - with tie and with elastic with an inventory of 5 each.   But we really have 10 that are neither and we add whichever option they pick at the end.   But having to split it up as 2 variants causes issues with inventory for example when someone buys 5 with elastic and thinks there are no more left because it only shows 5 with ties.

Is there a way to list an item and then have options?  Like with Amazon where you can add gift wrapping for $5 or something.   They don't have the same item that is unwrapped and the same item that is wrapped.  They just add the wrapping as an option to the items that they have.   Or Apple where you can pay extra for engraving.

Have you found a solution to this?  I am needing to do the same thing and cannot figure it out.

Unfortunately there isn't a solution or a workaround for this yet within Squarespace. There are many other threads about this.

Wow the one option I need and it isn’t available.  It is all I have left to add to my website before launching.  I can’t believe this option is not available.  I am wondering now how other people are getting around this.  I think what I am going to do for now is add a separate product page that is hidden and list the Mat and framing I have available so they can add to their cart.  I am not sure what else to do.  Hope this gets added in the future.

We created a workaround by adding it to the shipping option.  For example:

• Shipping Option 1: First Class Shipping (£6.50)
• Shipping Option 2: First Class Shipping + Gift Wrapping (£7.50)

It's not particularly elegant but it's working well for us.  Our site is at skywavegin.com

Yes! I'm also hoping for a similar feature for a client. She offers shoes with a standard sole and an upgrade. Rather than list the upgrade as a product variant (creating more admin work, inventory management, etc.), I'd love for customers to just be able to select the upgrade as an add-on or upsell. 

I need this, too! I'm working with a caterer and she wants to be able to offer add ons - even if it is just in a form (already using to ask about allergies) - as long as it can add the $ to the check out.

I want to add an option to each of my rings to have a custom engraving and if you add this option it is an addition $10. How would I go about doing this?
