Any update on this? I'd like to be able to use an existing gallery but can't find any info on how to do this. 

If you edit the gallery block you will see a little plus "+" sign on the bottom right hand corner. Click the "+" sign and you will get three options. One is "search images." Click to search images, then select the tab called "imported" and you will have access to your whole imported library.  

Same issues here! I can't choose from any existing galleries/collections. I tried setting up a blog page, product page & gallery section with images but nothing shows up on the "Use Existing Gallery" tab. Was anyone able to figure it out?
@tuanphan thanks for posting link to the Gallery Blocks guide. This guide says you can display content from a Gallery page, but in 7.1 there's only Gallery Sections. Does that mean it's not possible to add images using an existing gallery or collection?
Any help would be appreciated!

 

I'm having the same issues. I made galleries and it's saying I have no content to add to the blog.

Hi there,
I'm building a website in Squarespace 7.1 and I want to know if anyone has an answer for this. I'm looking to add a Gallery Block, and you're faced with two tabs, 'Upload Media' and 'Use Existing Gallery'. When I click on 'Use Existing Gallery', it says 'There are no collections'.
How do I make a gallery collection so that it shows up when I try to add a Gallery Block?

I will do what you did in the video, test it, and let you know what I find.  I ended up deleting my other gallery so I will have to recreate one but I don't mind.  

turning to dropdown may require custom js, if you looking for pure css solution, try this in Design->custom CSS

I just made some changes to Classic Gallery block, now it allows you to choose existing galleries, just like 7.0 did! You can create a Gallery block or Section on a blank page and the existing gallery will be available to choose.
If you have a dropdown name exactly `Classic Gallery Pages`, the code will look for pages inside that dropdown only, help reduce the time comparing to seeking gallery on all other pages...

When can we expect to see some changes?

I am building a website for my local quilting guild (501c-7).   We have about 250 quilters. Many of whom are senior citizens, some of whom are tech savvy enough to appreciate this site.  Others are reluctant but willing.   Phase 1 is to help put information out there for members and to begin to build awareness of our work(some charity). 
I built a member site that requires them to create an account with login and password.  Phase 2 will enable people to pay for workshops, renew memberships, etc ($$).  The member site was access was the most challenging and still the page upon login looks lame.  I do not see any way to customize this 'side screen' and have posted this concern to the forum but no response.

My shop is set up with categories applied. Currently I can't find a way that that allows me to change the the top content and SEO/Meta data to coincide with the category.  No matter which category I choose or edit, the top content applies to all categories within the shop.

You can use javascript to parse a rss feed so it can be displayed on the site automatically

Okay, I think we take the matter into our hands, I think there is a free javascript library that can help us to parse the metadata out of the image

As it turns out Squarespace does preserve that metadata in the image, so I can see if we can parse those data into gallery blocks/sections, that would reduce lots of labor work in the photographer's process

I just sign up to second to this 3.5 years ago post. I was thinking it must be me not understanding the platform and have to search online to use a seemingly existing "existing galleries" and turns out I am not stupid.
Hope there will be a neat workaround.

The lightbox stinks. It has zero scrolling capabilities. Even Adobe Portfolio has that ability. So if you want to show tall images, say a website page you designed, you're pretty much screwed. You have to show the whole thing on the page which takes up a ton of room and forces users to scroll to see other images. For a service that touts being a gallery for portfolios, this should have been fixed ages ago.

Gallery Block is one of the most wanted feature on Squarespace 7.1, for the last few days I thought Squarespace dev team decided to bring it back but it turns out a 'mistake' and now it gone again!
So I created this snippet to bring the feature to include the gallery into section's block using code block and gallery section.
There a few steps you need to follow
1. Create a gallery section and grab it's section id, using this extension:

2. Create a Code Block where you wanted the gallery to show up, add this code snippet 
<div class="gallery-placeholder" data-target='{gallery-section-id}'> Gallery Block Name (optional) </div> whereas
- {gallery-section-id} should be replace with the section id you got above
- Gallery Block Name: this is optional, you can place it to identify which section will be replaced in the block position
3. Add these snippet into Settings->Advanced->Code Injection, note that the stylesheet can be place into Design->Custom CSS
