How to hide product pricing on shop unless a customer is signed in

Recommended Posts

Normally I keep my online shop password protected. I am now looking into opening up my shop to the public so that visitors can browse the products I offer, but would have to login / create an account in order to see pricing and make orders.

Some skincare brands I am partnered with do not allow online pricing to be visible the public, but they do allow us to have "login to view pricing" or "create an account to make an order" option.

I have attached an example of what Im particularly looking for. You can still view and read about the product as a visitor, but you would have to create an account /log in to view pricing and shop.

You can add a 'public' Store page (without a password) and then import duplicates of the products without prices. For the 'secret' Store page, you can continue to use the password method, or use a Member Site. For the "log in to see prices" messaging you may want to use some code, to avoid having to paste this hundreds of times. You mmay want to read this similar thread, in case it is relevant: Hiding prices from new clients.

I would like to keep one store, but to require customers to create an account in order to see pricing and shop products. I don't mind code, it may be easier than creating 2 separate stores that would potentially confuse my customers. How do I go about doing this? Thanks!

So I found an old SS form where someone else had asked the same question as I did and you created a code for them to use to hide the pricing unless logged in. I got it to work, but now im wondering if theres any way to have the "Log in to view pricing" a clickable link that directs them to signing in / creating an account to make it easier on the customer? Is that possible?

Hi there, replying to this because I have the same question.  I would like my products to be available to be viewed publicly (so descriptions and images are visible and SEO is engaged) + with prices hidden unless someone logs in.  I'd also like the "Log in to view pricing" to be a clickable link that directs site visitors to signing in / creating an account to make it easier on the customer.  I didn't see a response above on how to do that and am new to SS so would also like to keep this all in one store without having to create duplicates (I'm planning on having about 100 skews so that would be a lot of work).  I would be grateful if anyone could explain how to do this in detail because I'm a novice - thank you in advance for your time!

Can you help us to understand what you mean by "hide" the prices. For example, are you in the same situation as the original poster where you are under a legal agreement with a supplier not to show their prices on your site?

You could use some Custom CSS to "hide" the prices from humans looking at the page, but this unlikely to meet the terms of an agreement like the one I described. This is because the price will still be within the data on the page, and search engines will be able to "see" them. If you're subject to an agreement like that, you would need two store pages. One without any price data (not just "hidden") and one protected page where the prices are shown.

Of course, if there are no legal restrictions, you can just "hide" them with Custom CSS.

Thank you for following up.  I am in the same position as the previous original poster where I am in a legal agreement with the product manufacturer that says that I, as the wholesaler, need to make pricing unavailable to be viewed without the person looking at it having logged into an account.

Could you please explain how to make a separate store page that is available via login?  I've already created a Shop Page with all of my skews on there so is there a way to go through and duplicate them (and then edit from there) rather than manually recreating every single skew?

Sure.

The login is usually achieved by using Member Sites feature. After creating the member site, you can add a Store page to it. You now have a protected Store page.

You can export your existing products to a CSV file.

You can then edit this file, replacing each price with 0.00.

In the file, change the store name (on every row) to match the new protected Store page instead of the original one.

Once saved, you can import the list of products from the CSV, directly to the new page.
