Code to rearrange the order of the events block

Hello,

I have an events block page on my site with a few small upcoming events and a larger retreat coming up in January. Because it is chronologically last, it stays at the bottom of the list. However, I would like to find a way to keep the retreat event at the top of the list to highlight it. I added a section above it with info and wanted it to blend in together and live at the top of the event page. I know it is not possible to rearrange the order with built in features. 

Do you know if there is a way to work around that with code?

Another option would be to ditch the event block all together and just build a long page with anchor code. But i was hoping to keep the event block.
