Add Gallery SECTION (not Gallery Block) to Blog Page

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am trying to access more display options for galleries in my blog posts. Is there any way to add a Gallery SECTION to a blog post? It seems like there is no way to add any section to a blog post, let alone a gallery section. This is not to be confused with the gallery-block, which does not have my desired formatting options. It appears that the only type of gallery that can be added to a blog post is a gallery-block...

Gallery blocks only have 4 layouts for displaying the images, none of which I like:

  1. Slideshow
  2. Carousel
  3. Grid
  4. Stack

However, gallery sections have 6 layouts:

  1. Grid: Simple
  2. Grid: Strips
  3. Grid: Masonry
  4. Slideshow: Simple
  5. Slideshow: Full
  6. Slideshow: Reel

I much prefer the Grid: Strips and Grid: Masonry layouts due to their versatility in displaying images with a variety of aspect ratios in a single album. The closest layout within the galery-blocks options is just grid. However this doesn't work because you're essentially forced to have them cropped to one specific aspect ratio. Sure, you can uncheck "crop images" in the settings, but then it looks like trash.

Gallery-Block Grid layout. Bad for multiple aspect ratios.

Gallery-Section, Grid: Masonry layout. Good for multiple aspect ratios.

Did you get anywhere with this?

I'm using blog posts to organise an architecture website because the portfolio option wasn't versatile enough and am facing the same frustration - having to organise the layout with individual images

You can use Gallery Block Grid, but we can use code to turn Grid to Masonry Layout

Hi tuanphan, thanks for your reply. I ended up purchasing a plugin for that, but would rather use CSS only if that's achievable?

Also, can you add SEO to each image on the grids? I've built the pages with individual images and quite like that we can add SEO to them individually...

CSS can't change this layout, I guess so, it will require a lot of JS code.

You mean add SEO ALT Tag?
