Changed my meta-description but Google won't update

I published my site without a meta description, so google grabbed random text. I then went in and added a meta description but google is still not showing the correct text. is there a way to get google to update this?

Request manual indexing of the page and submit your sitemap on Google Search Console.

Type in "sitemap.xml" in the "enter sitemap url" box you can see in the image.
