Expanding Background of Button on Hover

Hi there, I want to have my button hover background color not be so tight on the text (see Screenshot 1). I tried to give it a border but it didn't work. This is the code I used.

  background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255) !important; 
  border: 10px !important; 
  border-color: rgb(255, 255, 255) !important; 
  color: #be8d66 !important;
 /* Hover text color */
}

Any ideas?
