Transfer Domain Away from Squarespace

Recommended Posts

Trying to transfer a domain away from Squarespace but the process is taking forever. Does anybody know how to approve the transfer?

Every step is designed to be as painful as possible with one or two day delays sprinkled everywhere and it is also full of dark design patterns. Even the transfer notification email is crafted with malicious compliance and does not allow the user to approve the transfer and says the transfer will take 5 business days.

No other domain registrar does this kind of trickery. Why isn't there an option to approve the transfer? I do not want to be your customer and I regret not transferring the domain while it was still managed by Google Domains.

Squarespace has maliciously slowed down the process -

There used to be a way to actively approve the transfer however now the only option is to cancel it and if you want it to proceed you need to wait for 5 days.

I had a domain moved to Squarespace as part of the Google Domains acquisition - because of their poor customer service I started a transfer this morning and I'll need to wait for 5 days.

I also preemptively transferred all of my domains that were still in Google Domains and they've all completed within 30 minutes or less per domain

All of them are, any move from  A to B can be a pain. Believe me, I have gone through the same thing many times.

Nonsense, with Google Domains it took less than 15 minutes. I know, I moved 20+ domains away from Google domains before GoDaddy/SquareSpace took over. Sadly I am now stuck trying to move a domain  from squarespace. I have started a case with ICANN...hopefully this will address the issue.

I have just started this process transferring to LayerShift.  00.00 hours GMT 14th July.

Postscript.  Later received by email an authcode for transfer at 01.15 hours GMT.

Mind you it was for a different domain in my collection.  But we are getting there.

I will probably end with at least two universes - LayerShift and SquareSpace where the rule is each that domain and hosting service are under one roof for integrated support.  There might be other "roofs". Registrar+Hosting.

One plan I have in back of my mind from this experience is to use automation scripts to navigate easily through this jungle.
