Multiple Google Search engine errors

Recommended Posts

I have redesigned our years old site and placed it online last week.

However, google is claiming there are a lot of problems and I fear this might affect my SEO.
I've done some searching already and I think some of these things are not problematic, still, there's a lot I don't understand.

These are the most important errors (also in attachment)

  • Alternate page with proper canonical tag: very strange, because the exact same page is in another tab mentioned as indexed.
  • Page with redirect: related to the above, apparently
  • blocked by robots.txt: I've read on the forums this shouldn't be too much of a problem, as it relates exclusively to blog tag pages
  • not found 404: old pages that haven't come over to the new site. What should I do? Does Google remove them automatically later?
  • crawled currently not indexed: again, mostly blog tag pages and a few old pages. Will they go eventually?
  • discovered currently not indexed: same
  • Soft 404: strangely it concerns my own 404 page

Advice is greatly appreciated.

Well, I seem to have figured most of it out. The one persistent problem is the /home page which gives a non-canonical tag error. Can you help me with this?

I have the same problem as Squarespace automatically duplicates the homepage. I have no idea how to fix this.

I connected google search console to a live website recently for page indexing & I'm getting the following error:

Alternate page with proper canonical tag

This website has been live for a few years now, but it never used the Search Console connection. I recently received access to improve the site and this was one of the first things I did.

I think this is related to the sitemap.xml showing http:// page URL links instead of https://. The image and script CDN URLs show up as https:// but the actual pages do not. I recently activated the SSL https:// option as well, before submitting search console URLS, about 3 days ago. The website had a cert but sent all traffic to insecure http://. I did not activate the HSTS option yet, only the option that makes visitors view and redirect to the https:// version of the site.

The change was made 3 days ago and the sitemap it seems hasn't updated, at least for the page URLs. I checked SS documentation and it mentioned you can't directly edit the sitemap, but it auto-updates. I tried adding a blank page a few minutes ago to see if that helps force a change to the sitemap.xml file.

Currently no pages are indexing in Google Search Console, they all have this error. Any tips appreciated.

Sitemap still hasn't updated URLs... it's been days. What's the deal?
