When I try to rename it to /about  I get this error "This URL is already in use."

Check that you haven't deleted a page with this URL slug, for example, the demo content about page. URL slugs can't match content in the 'trash can'.

To reuse a deleted page or post's URL slug, empty the 'trash can', or restore the deleted page or post, change its URL, then delete it again so you can reuse the URL.

Hi,

Unfortunately, it occured over 30 days ago so it is not in the trash can.

I think I found another way via URL mapping:

/about -> /aboutme 301

If it isn't in the trash can, it may be worth double-checking that you don't have a page using this URL slug - for example, a page you have disabled. If no such page exists, I recommend you contact Squarespace Customer Care so they can investigate.
