Low Highlight Background Color Across Multiple Lines

Thanks to many online tutorials, I figured out how to do the low highlight background color that's very popular.

However I'm trying to do it across two lines and there are two issues that come up:

1. There is a little indent sort of thing on the longer length letter

2. My text is no longer centered on the page like I want it to be

This is the code I've used:

h3 {background: linear-gradient(180deg, #FFF 60%, #D0A363 60%); display:inline;
}

And I've attached the image showing the issue.

Any help fixing those two things?
