Members Areas - Is there a setting to approve or reject applicants?

Im interested in having a members only section to allow more purchase options to valued customers.

When a customer clicks the join now and fills in the required info. Is there a way for their account application to sit in pending until approved by site owner. Also is it possible to add more requirements for info when joining. E.g. instead of just name and email, can the customer be asked for more info, e.g address, contact number etc.

Whilst on topic is there a way to make a nice looking access denied page rather than it just being boring blank white page??

Thanks in advance
