Squarespace Page Structure - Why is there SEO "Title" and "Description" on Sections?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am updating SEO on a website and I see that the Pages have a "Title" and "Description" for SEO, which is expected.

However, I also notice that the Sections also have the same SEO options, which seems odd being as these sections are not being submitted to Google via the sitemap. It also says "Page Settings" which I find confusing, as I'm in the section settings.

My questions are:

1. Why are there "Title" and "Description" options under the section settings? Where might it be useful to use these section SEO options?

2. Why does it say "Page Title"? I find this confusing as I'm editing in-page linked sections on a page (home).

2. If the SEO in the section settings does serve a purpose we will add information.  We also don't want to add work if it serves no purpose at all, in which case should we leave these fields blank?

Thank you for your thoughts/answers on the subject!

Normal practice is to add an SEO title/description to the main index page settings as this is typically the URL that you want to share. However it is possible for both the index and sub-pages to appear in search results, depending on their content and the template used. To hide sub-pages from search engines you can add noindex tags to them. For more information about Index page SEO, see the support guide, Index page SEO and social sharing.
