Project prev-next buttons show coded Portfolio Text

I have the titles of my projects named like this: Little Peek<span>Vinalhaven, ME</span> to allow a subheading on the Portfolio page. However the previous/next buttons (item-pagination-prev-next) on the project pages are showing the edited text. 

Is there anyway to fix this so that it only displays the main title? 

To develop my question more. 

Is there any CSS code that could prevent the <span> text from showing up in the prev/next buttons?

I’m still looking for help on this. I hope there is a solution
