RSS Subscription Analytics and 3rd-party analytics discrepancy

I use Podtrac as a third party podcast download tracker via the "Podcast Analytics URL" field in the Podcasting upload section of our blog post. Currently, Podtrac is reporting we get an average of 20 listens per episode. However, the Squarespace RSS Subscribers Analytics is reporting around 3,500 subscribers per day, which is a giant discrepancy. I understand a download and a subscriber isn't the same thing. But, what could be the reason for such a discrepancy?

Hello from the future!

I know this is an old post but I am also looking for an answer to this. I use podtrac also and have almost the exact same numbers you have posted here though a few less rss subs. Why the discrepancy and honestly what exactly is an rss subscriber?
