Website Speed Optimisation: Add Expires Headers

Recommended Posts

Site URL: https://tools.pingdom.com

Hi Guys,

On doing a Website Speed test on a Squarespace site via https://tools.pingdom.com it's getting a severe warning for 'Add Expires Headers'

Is this anything we can add or customise via Squarespace? Or somthing they plan to address?

Add Expires headers

Web pages are becoming increasingly complex with more scripts, style sheets, images, and Flash on them. A first-time visit to a page may require several HTTP requests to load all the components. By using Expires headers these components become cacheable, which avoids unnecessary HTTP requests on subsequent page views. Expires headers are most often associated with images, but they can and should be used on all page components including scripts, style sheets, and Flash.

I have the same question regarding "Reduce Expires Headers." The only way I see to add expires headers is to modify the .htaccess file which we do not have access to. This is a very simple website and the lowest grade by far is the Expires Header (according to tools.pingdom.com). My site earned a D, 67% for the "Expires Headers," otherwise an A.
