Actually, this explanation over-simplifies the Squarespace sales tax process that I, along with the previous Squarespace Customers, are struggling with. According to Squarespace, (with the Squarespace "Commerce Plan") we are able to use the "TaxJar Extension" to calculate sales tax "automatically" at checkout, based on the customer's shipping or billing address.  So, I connected the TaxJar extension to my Squarespace site by creating my free TaxJar account, and discovered sales taxes on Squarespace work for shipments to my state (New York) but not to other states.  I contacted Squarespace about this issue and they told me "Third-party extensions are outside of our scope of support" and I need to contact TaxJar. I contacted TaxJar and they told me I need to contact Squarespace about this issue, since the TaxJar engine service is included with my Squarespace commerce plan to "give access to the TaxJar engine, which provides tax calculation at checkout".  Alternatively, TaxJar is happy to up-sell me on their "TaxJar Professional Plan" features and benefits.
So... we are being bounced around for a service that is supposed to be "automatic", and included with our Squarespace Commerce plan.
@Squarespace, if there is an "automatic" process that we are unaware of, please let us know. And if not, it seems you need to correct your service language to state the TaxJar engine will "automatically provide tax calculation at checkout" AFTER you register in every state, and AFTER you obtain a tax ID in every state.  Hoping for transparency and a user-friendly solution, thank you.

@Cassiefio is this still working for you? Does it work in all states? This is my current experience, but would love to hear from you if you figured out a solution! Thanks in advance -

I have a TaxJar account connected and my SS store is calculating taxes automatically, but ONLY in my state. Out of state sales calculate ZERO tax. I thought I could get around this by adding each state's avg tax manually, but SS makes you choose between manual tax rates and automatic tax rates. It WILL NOT DO BOTH. I'm at a loss. This is ridiculous.

I consolidated my Shopify and Squarespace website and moved everything over to SS. I imported my products and then got stuck on the Sales Tax situation in Squarespace. Unbelievable. I am not entering all the NY zip codes and rates, that's insulting for an e-commerce solution. Ok, so I tested the "include sales tax" option. So now Squarespace calculates the tax included, based on the zip code, but the rates are wrong.  My zip code has an 8.375% sales tax, and Squarespace calculates it as 8.74%. No jurisdiction in NY has that rate. If I take a Yonkers, NY zip code. I get 8.375% sales tax included, but that zip code has 8.75% sales tax. This is madness. It looks like I now have to manually enter every transaction into QuickBooks and fix the tax calculations there. The tax calculations in Squarespace are worthless. How are you guys dealing with this?

Ditto- may have to migrate a site that is less than a year old because of this issue.

This issue keeps me up at night. If Squarespace doesn’t add this key integration soon, I will be forced to move my website to another platform. I work out of NY which has a bajillion tax rates. I’m not going to enter every zip code. That’s insanity

I  am furious at squarespace about this. I would have never spent all this money and all this time building a site if I knew about this tax situation. The support team won't even tell you if the site you made on their platform is legal. This is my first attempt with an online store and they won't explain what I need to do for taxes in NC per their terms and conditions. Told me to hire a tax advisor or lawyer. So I'm beyond lost and they refuse to help. I'm in the process of canceling my account and moving my domain. I don't want to wait weeks to maybe have a solution right before the holidays.

    Hi!
I am at my wits end with trying to figure out a better way to set up sales taxes on my squarespace e-commerce page. I already know Squarespace unfortunately fails in this area majorly. I feel like I will have to move to a different platform if I cannot figure out some way of automating the sales tax calculation without having to enter a sales tax rate for every zip code/zip code range manually.
Does the TaxJar integration with Stripe Orders API solve the problem with sales tax calculation at check out by some miracle? Is anyone familiar with that? Any words of wisdom will be much appreciated!
