Tax isn't calculating in checkout
holmeswatercolors replied to holmeswatercolors's topic in Setting up your store
It's a little confusing and I'm still not sure I understand 100% but if you don't have nexus (a physical or frequent presence) in a state then you can't charge sales tax in that state, though I don't quite understand how that works when it comes time to report taxes.. -

I haven't been able to get sales tax to calculate in my checkout. I linked my website to TaxJar and entered my tax information but it didn't seem to make a difference. The tax won't calculate at checkout. I'm also confused as to why it asks you to enter tax information manually on TaxJar. I thought the whole point of paying for that service was to have taxes calculated automatically. Do you have to register to collect tax in every state if you want to sell online? From the research I've done you don't have to register with each state unless you're making a certain amount of money. I don't understand why selling online and setting up an online shop should be this convoluted. I'd appreciate any input and firsthand experience. Thanks! -Seth

Hi, I'm pretty bewildered at the convoluted sales tax-collecting process on the Squarespace platform. I have a Commerce Squarespace Plan and it's connected to my taxer account but I just discovered, after numerous sales, that I'm not collecting any sales tax from customers... Why isn't the 'automatic' tax collecting process automatic? Is there another platform where it is automatic? Why isn't there a simple, straightforward, honest way for business people who aren't web developers or internet savvy people to simply create their website and store and have things run smoothly? I need a product for an idiot. From what I understand, I have to go into TaxJar and set up the sales tax collection manually...which isn't at all 'automatic'. I also have to be register in every state I intend to sell products to? Why? Aren't I just paying my sales tax to my state at the end of the year, or do I have to report separately to every state from which a customer buys? I don't get it.. The whole reason I'm paying the extra money for a commerce plan is to make the tax collecting process easier...and it doesn't seem to be working. So Squarespace is gladly reaching into my pocket and taking a few hundred more out of my pocket while I'm not even buying what I thought I was. ..Not a great way to do business or keep clients. I've searched the forums and it looks like there are plenty other irritated and confused users of the Squarespace platform. If anybody has any advice, either on how to deal with the issue and simply collect the appropriate tax from customers at checkout, or for a better platform that is more idiot-proof and intuitive, I'd be most thankful for your input!

Rerouting QR code linked to URL with Capital Letters
holmeswatercolors replied to holmeswatercolors's topic in SEO
I recently had some labels made with QR codes that are supposed to link to my website but I didn't realize that squarespace only allows URLs with lowercase letters, and the QR codes were made using Capital letters. I provided the company that made the labels with a spreadsheet of serial numbers to associate with the QR codes but I didn't realize that it would be a huge problem to have the letters in CAPS instead of lowercase. I am now unable to create the URL associated with the QR codes in squarespace so my labels are effectively useless, and they weren't cheap.. Here's an example: Capital (as it was in the spreadsheet): https://www.holmeswatercolors.com/authenticity/p/656A7949V73930YT Lowercase (as I should have had it in the spreadsheet): https://www.holmeswatercolors.com/authenticity/p/656a7949v73930yt I entered the 301 rerouting code under the advanced tab but it doesn't reroute when I scan the QR code. If you scan the QR code you can see that it doesn't redirect. Is there a way to do this using the labels I already have created? Is there any way to manually code a Squarespace URL using capital letters? Thanks! -

Site URL: https://www.holmeswatercolors.com Hi, Is it possible to have express checkout activated for a 'service' store, but have the regular option where you can continue adding items to the cart for an 'item' store? Or are any changes site-wide? Better yet, for both stores, is it possible to have the default be to continue shopping but add a button that says 'check out now'? Additionally, when I enable 'express checkout' it works on my phone but acts like it's not enabled on my desktop.. Thanks for any ideas.

Automatically or affixing a date to a product
holmeswatercolors replied to holmeswatercolors's topic in Pages & Content
I couldn't find a way to make an event expire so the option remains to purchase tickets even after an event, which is unfortunate. I just try to remove the link as soon as I can after the class has ended. Here's a link: https://www.holmeswatercolors.com/classes -
Hi, I'm trying to make limited prints available in my store but I want to include all variants in the limited quantity. I want to have different sizes available but max out the number of available prints at 25 total. When I add variants I can limit the quantity of each size but I have no idea which size people will want to purchase so I can't say how many of each size are available. Is there a way to keep my size variants but limited the total quantity of my product to 25? Thanks.

Site URL: https://www.holmeswatercolors.com/classes Hi, I sell tickets for my in-person paint class on my site and so far I've been successful without purchasing an additional product. When I signed up I was under the impression that squarespace would be able to handle what I needed it for without additional software being required. Essentially I'd like to add a date to my product (my classes) so that when the event has passed people can't mistakenly purchase tickets. I'd like the past events to go to a page where people can view them and I can upload images of paintings from the classes. On a related note, I have inventory set but I'd like to add a button so people can see the number of tickets remaining for an event. Thanks in advance for any help!
