Customized Text Over Gallery Grid

Hey all. 

I recently used customized code to place caption text over a slideshow. I'll share the code below. 
Has anyone done this? If so, are you able to get rid of the white space where the caption was originally placed before the next section begins? Please see attached. The white space between the banner slide and the text in the next section is too much. 
Also, any tips on how to make this customizable to mobile view?
