Image loading issues in Google Chrome and Safari

Hi, 

I've recently added image fades to the images on my homepage and I have come across a glitch when viewing the site in Chrome and Safari. When you scroll down the page the images load fine, however if you click through to a gallery page and then go back to the homepage anything that hadn't previously loaded will not show until the page has been refreshed. I have attached video to show the issue. This doesn't seem to happen when viewing the site in Firefox. I have cleared all browsing history and made sure everything is up to date so I have no idea what is going wrong. I have checked other sites that use the same image fades and the same problem seems to occur there too. Has anyone come across this before and have a solution?
