Auto hyphenation body text - code doesn't show hyphens

Hello,

I would like to enable automatic hyphenation in body text. Attached code works, but other characters are displayed instead of a hyphen. What do I need to add in the code so that hyphens are added?

This is the code:

// Enable word hyphenation body text

p {

    -webkit-hyphens: auto !important;

       -moz-hyphens: auto !important;

        -ms-hyphens: auto !important;

            hyphens: auto !important;

  }

on mobile it looks fine, but not on desktop.
