Is it only possible to link to a URL? If so, what's the URL for donations? Here are the instructions from the Squarespace tutorial on how to add buttons -- no details on adding "Donate" button here. You can add a donation block under banner, then share link to your site, we can give the code to move button position into banner Email me if you have need any help (free, of course.).
