Displaying colour variants on main commerce page

Hey there!

I manage a website for an artist who sells prints. She often sells the same print in various colours, and I would like for customers to be able to see the colour options as they browse prints without having to navigate to each print's page to see the colour options. Preferably, I'd like the other colours to appear when customers scroll over the print, or the various colours to be displayed in small boxes below the product thumbnail. Any ideas?
