Customising blog search function

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Wondering if anyone knows how to customise the search function so that when you input in the search bar instead of redirecting to the /search page, instead you remain on the same page and the grid changes to display only the items that match the search. Is this possible with html? @tuanphan would you be able to help?

Many thanks,

Daniel

Can you share the url to the page with the search function so I can check it?

@DoppyG I just tried testing something, it is what you want?

https://tuanphan3.squarespace.com/blog-basicgrid?noredirect

pass: abc

Try enter text: 04 or 09 to Search box

Hi @tuanphan yes that's exactly the kind of thing I was looking to make! Nice one! Would you be able to share the code you used? Very much appreciated

I used custom plugin in this case.

Thanks @tuanphan. With that plugin do you know if there's a way of searching normal pages or just Blogs, Products, Gallery, Events, Albums? Do you have any suggestions for creating a filterable search function across my whole site that would include Publications, Press releases etc? I suppose I'm asking if there's a way of tagging/categorising pages outside of a blog and having a search function through Universal Filter that can process them? https://www.opportunitygreen.org/

It search collection page (blog, product, gallery, event, portfolio) and some sections (gallery, section, summary) only.

With search on whole site, this plugin can't do it.

You can try Google Custom Search.

https://programmablesearchengine.google.com/about/

Or Elfsight Search Widget (referral link), it has a free version, you can test with it. But it also uses results from the Google Search.
