  2. Choosing a shipping option can feel like an intimidating task when building your online store, especially when there are multiple options to choose from. We’ve collected some common questions from our Setting up shipping and taxes webinar, and boiled them down into five frequently asked questions to help you out. What’s the best shipping option for me? Setting up shipping options is not a one-size-fits-all process. The best shipping option for you depends on the products you sell and what will help you reach your profit margins goals. That said, let’s go through the shipping options available on Squarespace and identify the types of products that will be best suited for each of them. Flat rate Flat rate shipping is an option that lets you set a shipping price based on the number of items in an order. Flat rate shipping is easy for customers to understand, and it can be a great selling point to advertise on your online store. It’s best suited for merchants who sell items that are roughly the same size and weight. You may want to consider flat rate shipping if you find most of your products can fit in the same size packaging or if you sell high-value items where the price of shipping is negligible. Jewelry, for example, usually lends itself well to flat rate shipping as pieces can typically fit in the same sized packaging. If you use flat rate shipping, consider adding an announcement bar to your site to highlight it as a selling point. Depending on weight As the name suggests, depending on weight shipping lets you set shipping costs based on an order’s weight. It’s an excellent option for merchants who sell merchandise that’s roughly the same size but vary significantly in weight. With this option, you can set weight ranges with their own shipping costs. A merchant who sells clothing, for example, may want to consider the weight dependent shipping option as a winter coat is much heavier than a silk blouse, and it will cost more to ship. If you plan to use weight dependent shipping, ensure you’ve added accurate weights and dimensions to all of your products. Carrier calculated shipping Carrier calculated shipping lets you use real-time shipping rates calculated by FedEx, UPS, and USPS based on package weight, dimensions, and shipping addresses. This is a good option for those who want to ship with a particular carrier and those who sell items that vary in size. If you plan on using carrier calculated shipping, you’ll need to add weights and dimensions (based on how they’re shipped) to your products to get the most accurate rates. Please note, carrier calculated shipping is available on the Commerce Advanced, Premium, and some legacy billing plans, and it’s not available for shipping to Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands. . What if I want to have different shipping options for specific products? After reviewing the shipping options above, you may be thinking, “What if one shipping option isn’t suitable for all of my products?”. This is where fulfillment profiles will come in handy. Fulfillment profiles are similar to categories that you can create and assign to specific products to limit shipping options for them. They let merchants who sell a variety of products control the shipping options that customers see at checkout. Let’s use an example of a merchant who sells vintage furnishings. They may want to make smaller items (like vases and light fixtures) available to ship at a flat rate, but may want to reserve heavier, fragile items (like glass tables and mirrors) for local pickup only. Assigning fulfillment profiles to these products will automatically limit the shipping options available at checkout for those products. This lets you use multiple shipping options on your site and contributes to a seamless checkout experience for your customers. How can I use a free shipping discount to achieve my business goals? Shoppers love discounts, and free shipping discounts are no exception. With Squarespace, you can create a discount to offer free shipping by sharing an offer code or, if you’re on Commerce Advanced or Premium plan, by creating an automatic discount. Let’s talk about a couple of ways that adding a free shipping discount can help you achieve your business goals. Increasing average order value (AOV) Have you ever added an extra product to your cart when you saw that orders above a certain amount were allotted free shipping? It’s a nice perk because it’s effective at getting shoppers to follow through with their purchases, and it can also help increase your average order value (AOV). With Squarespace, you can set up a free shipping discount for any order or orders over a certain amount within the Selling > Discounts panel of your site. You can even limit the discount to specific shipping options, like free two-day shipping. Building your mailing list A free shipping discount can also help you build your mailing list. Consider creating an automated email campaign with a special free shipping discount code for those who subscribe to your mailing list. You can advertise that subscribers receive free shipping off their first order in your newsletter block to see if that moves the needle on your mailing list growth goals. What if I want to charge different shipping rates based on location? A package’s shipping cost depends on multiple factors, including where (and specifically how far) you’re shipping it. That said, you may want to charge different shipping rates for different areas or limit shipping to some areas. For example, if you’re shipping from the U.S, you may want to charge one rate for orders within the U.S and another rate for orders shipping to the rest of the world, which will cost more to fulfill. You can do this by creating shipping zones. When you add a new shipping option, you’ll be prompted to create shipping zones for it; and when your customers enter their shipping address, they’ll only see the shipping options that are relevant to them. Squarespace supports state, province, city, and postal code specific shipping options for eight countries. As a tip, you can create a local pickup option for buyers in your postal code to avoid having to pay for shipping on orders that are very close to your business location. What are some benefits of offering local pickup? Local pickup may work for your business if you have a local customer base or if you sell items that are difficult (or too expensive) to ship. Aside from providing your customers with another fulfillment option, there are some other benefits to offering local pickup. Save effort and money This may already be apparent, but local pickup can spare you the effort and money it takes to ship your products. Customers come right to your business to pick up their order, and you don’t have to worry about the shipping cost or lugging your packages to the carrier. Build a local customer base Offering local pickup can help you build a local clientele base. If you have customers in your area, local pickup can encourage them to make a purchase as they won’t need to pay for shipping. Additionally, if you sell your products at markets or trade-shows in your area, you can inform shoppers about local pickup if they’re on the fence about making a purchase right then and there. As a note, if you do sell your products in person, you may be interested in learning more about selling in person with Squarespace point of sale.

There are other HLS video streams which work with those versions of iOS, however, some other HLS video streams from other video hosts are seeing similar issues. Our fix will be forthcoming from what we find out. We know this is not ideal for those who use video on their sites. This is all the information we have available at the moment. We will reply in this thread once a fix has been rolled out. To receive notifications on updates to this post, click the Follow button in the top right corner of the post.

Before you begin: First, you need to enable the website cookie banner, and ensure you’ve selected the “Opt In & Out” banner type. Code: Next, you would go to Website > Website Tools > Code Injection. You could add the following code to your header code injection (removing any existing Google Ads code first): <script async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=AW-{AW-ID}"></script> <script> window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || []; function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);} gtag('consent', 'default', { 'ad_storage': 'denied', 'ad_user_data': 'denied', 'ad_personalization': 'denied' }); gtag('js', new Date()); gtag('config', 'AW-{AW-ID}'); let squarespaceCookies = {}; if (window.getSquarespaceCookies) { squarespaceCookies = window.getSquarespaceCookies(); } const consentValue = squarespaceCookies.marketing === 'accepted' ? 'granted' : 'denied'; const consentObj = { 'ad_storage': consentValue, 'ad_user_data': consentValue, 'ad_personalization': consentValue }; gtag('consent', 'update', consentObj); window.onCookieBannerInteraction = () => { let squarespaceCookies = {}; if (window.getSquarespaceCookies) { squarespaceCookies = window.getSquarespaceCookies(); } const consentValue = squarespaceCookies.marketing === 'accepted' ? 'granted' : 'denied'; const consentObj = { 'ad_storage': consentValue, 'ad_user_data': consentValue, 'ad_personalization': consentValue }; gtag('consent', 'update', consentObj); } </script> Consent mode is a service provided by Google, so for any questions, verification, or testing support, you can reach out to their support team.

  10. 1. What’s the difference between a domain and a website? While domains and websites are closely related, they aren't the same. A website is a collection of content hosted on a server. A domain is a user-friendly address your browser uses to identify the location of a website. Let’s put it another way: think of your website as a house, with the domain being the street address. Your house contains all of your belongings in the same way your website contains all of your content. Domains are like a home address because they provide visitors with the unique address that takes them directly to your home or website. Website and domain hosting are separate subscriptions that are billed separately. With Squarespace, you can get a free year of domain hosting when you register for an annual website subscription. 2. What’s the difference between transferring a domain to my Squarespace site and connecting it? Transferring a domain to your site makes Squarespace your domain host. This means you can manage your domain billing, settings and registration from your Squarespace account. You can connect a domain to your Squarespace site if you’re unable to transfer it. The main difference from transferring is that a connected domain uses the current domain provider as the host. Connecting, or pointing, a domain to your Squarespace site involves updating your domain’s DNS settings from your provider's end. Both setup processes lead to the same result. When you successfully add a domain to your site using either transferring or connecting, the domain directs users to your Squarespace site. 3. Why do you recommend transferring my domain to Squarespace instead of connecting it? If possible, transferring your domain to your Squarespace site is the recommended option over connecting a domain. Here are a few reasons why: Ease of use If you already have a Squarespace site, you can manage your domain’s DNS and billing settings from your Squarespace site. You won’t need to deal with two different providers. Scope of support Sometimes things can go wrong and questions can arise when managing your domain. If your domain is connected to your site, our Customer Support team can’t access your account with a third-party domain provider to provide more help. If Squarespace is your domain host, we can offer more insight and hands-on support to help you find solutions. Features All Squarespace domains include free Whois privacy and SSL certificates to protect your information and to keep your site marked as secure. While transferring your domain to Squarespace is the recommended domain setup option, the most important factor in your decision depends on what works best for you. Whether you decide to connect or transfer your domain, your visitors won’t experience any differences when viewing your site. 4. How can I choose a good domain name? For many users, their domain name is their name or the name of their business. For other users, it’s not as straightforward. Because a domain name is your first impression on the internet, we recommend choosing a name that's positive and memorable. Domains can be anywhere from a few characters to several words. Shorter domain names are more effective with audiences because their short length makes them easier for people to remember. Additionally, fewer characters means fewer possible misspellings. Consider the purpose of your site Before you choose a domain name, consider what the purpose of your site is and what your users will do when visiting your site. Are you selling products or services? Are you hosting a blog? Understanding your site’s purpose and audience will help you ‌develop a list of keywords to incorporate into your site content. These keywords are a tool you can use to find a domain name that's effective and relevant to your site. For example, if you’re choosing a domain name for a yoga studio, you can incorporate the word “yoga” into your domain because “yoga” is an important keyword throughout your site content that resonates with your audience and your site’s purpose. Distinguish yourself from your competitors It’s important to have a unique domain name to distinguish yourself from your competitors, especially if there are other websites that are similar to yours. For example, if you live in New York City and own a hardware store called Smith’s Hardware, smithshardwarenyc.com could stand out more to your local customers than smithshardware.com. Adding a unique identifier like “nyc” to your domain distinguishes your site from the competing Smith’s Hardware sites. 5. How can I set up a custom email address for my domain?? Once your domain is registered, you can create a custom email address for it, like youremail@yourdomain.com. Here are two ways to set this up in Squarespace: Email forwarding You can set up email forwarding for Squarespace-managed domains. With email forwarding, you create aliases for your email address. Then, emails sent to those aliases will be forwarded to another email address of your choice. Think of an alias as a nickname. For example, if your email is youremail@gmail.com, you can set up the alias youremail@yourdomain.com. All emails sent to youremail@yourdomain.com will forward to youremail@gmail.com. Google Workspace You can add Google Workspace to a Squarespace domain or third-party domain. Similar to email forwarding, you can use a custom domain email address with Google Workspace. The difference with Google Workspace is you create a new email with its own inbox instead of creating a nickname for an existing email This is a good option for businesses wanting a professional email address with its own inbox. Keep in mind, Google Workspace is a separate billing subscription from your domain and website. 6. I’m a Google Domains customer. Do I have to do anything? In 2023, Squarespace entered into an agreement to become the new home for Google Domains. Domains are being moved to Squarespace in phases. When your domain transitions from Google to Squarespace, you’ll become a Squarespace customer and manage your domain through an account with us. If you're a Google Domains customer, we’ll let you know when you need to take action. When your domain moves to Squarespace, you’ll receive an email to the email address associated with your Google Domains account. If you already have a Squarespace account, you’ll just need to log into it. If you don’t have a Squarespace account yet, one will be created for you automatically. Visit About the Google Domains migration to Squarespace to learn more about the migration, how to check the status of your domain and where to go for support.

You can now feature different pricing plans on this paywall so that users can purchase the product directly from it. 13. We’ve reviewed the questions we receive during our Design tips to increase your store’s sales webinar and boiled them down into 5 frequently asked questions. We then asked our merchandising expert and fellow Squarespace site owner to share some of their expertise, and here’s what they had to say: How can I showcase a new collection of products? There are many ways to merchandise a new collection of products, depending on the look and feel you want to go for. Here are a few different options: Use a products section Products sections were designed to display your products in eye-catching layouts. In addition to merchandising products on your store page, you can use a products section to merchandise your products on other pages of your site, like your homepage. As you drop new products, you can update the images in the product section to highlight them. Link a store category in your main navigation When you add categories to your products, your store page will be organized by those categories for an easier shopping experience. You can also link the specific product category in your site’s main navigation so more visitors will see it. Here’s one idea: you can create a “New” category for recently added products and then link that category in your main navigation so your newer products will get more views. Use Unfold to create templates for social media With Unfold, you can create beautiful templates for your social media feed and story posts. You can use these templates to advertise your new product releases on your social media platforms. Use the announcement bar An eye-catching call to action you may want to try is the announcement bar. The announcement bar appears at the top of your website, and you can use it to link to a new product drop in your store. What is a best practice for product descriptions? Of course, product descriptions should accurately describe the product in an enticing way, but let’s dig a bit deeper and talk about some other things to keep in mind when listing your products. Add high quality product photos A picture’s worth a thousand words, and your product photos are no exception to that. It’s best to have multiple photos that show off different angles of your products so that customers are more inclined to purchase. Choose your first and second product photos carefully. Your first photo will be the featured image on your store page, and the second photo will be the one that can display on hover. That said, it’s a good idea to use photos that are a bit different. For example, if you sell clothes, the first image could be the item itself, and the second image could be the item on a model. You can also enable image zoom on your photos. This is a particularly good idea if your products have any fine or ornate details that you want to show off. Of course, you should always make sure that you’re uploading photos that are the right dimensions and aspect ratios to ensure they look their best. We recommend an image width between 1500 and 2500px and a size of 500 KB so that they load quickly. Learn more about formatting your images for display on the web. In addition to looking great on your site, high quality product photos can also catch the eyes of customers shopping on Google, Instagram, and Facebook. With Squarespace, you can display your products in Google Shopping and sync them to Facebook and Instagram. Here’s a final tip: you can bulk upload photos from your phone using the Squarespace app. This is a great way to streamline the uploading process if you have your products on your phone. Enable reviews Do you look at customer reviews before you make a purchase? According to a study by trustmary.com, 93% of consumers read reviews before making a purchase. Enabling reviews is an excellent way to give your customers a voice and to inspire trust of your brand and products. Focus on benefits and use SEO keywords Your written descriptions are very important, not only because they can help a customer determine whether or not they want to purchase your product, but because they can help get your products to appear in search engine results. When writing your descriptions, it’s a good idea to focus on the benefits customers will derive from using a product. In other words, think of how the product could personally benefit someone who uses it and frame your descriptions around that. When you start to draft your descriptions, think about which SEO keywords you want to incorporate. SEO keywords are the words you use in your site content to help your site rank in search engines and help people find you. While not related to the overall design of your site, SEO keywords can help your products get noticed on search engines. When you’ve decided on the terms you want to prioritize, you can incorporate them into your product descriptions to help them surface on search engines. We recommend that your descriptions are at least three sentences. To get a first draft, you can use Squarespace AI to generate a description of your product. We recommend that you always review and edit AI output to ensure that it’s accurate, appropriate for your site, and incorporates your unique voice. Use limited availability labels Limited availability labels display product availability and flag items that are low in stock. They display on store pages and product details pages, and they can help drive buyer urgency. They’re an especially great merchandising option if you sell bespoke or limited edition items as you can communicate the scarcity elegantly. How can I merchandise my online courses? Course pages display a collection of online courses in an easy to navigate way. When a customer completes your course, they’ll see a visual indicator of their progress, motivating them to finish. Let’s talk about some ways you can further design your courses to encourage customers to purchase them. Use a digital products section Digital products sections are similar to products sections, however, they can be used to merchandise your digital products (like courses, member sites, and videos) on high traffic pages. If you’re a digital product seller, a great place to add one of these sections is to your homepage so visitors are aware of your offerings. There are plenty of layouts to choose from, and you can make your own edits to them to incorporate your own personal touch. Offer a freebie Everyone loves a freebie. Creating a free introductory level course can give potential customers a taste of what they can get out of your course, which may encourage them to make a purchase. You can then list that freebie in your digital products section or use a digital product block to advertise it on another page of your site. Within a course’s lesson page, you can link a downloadable handout with a detailed course overview or additional information to further encourage customers to enroll. How can I increase my average order value (AOV)? A tried and true strategy of increasing AOV is to offer a discount or free shipping when customers spend a certain amount. That said, you have many design options you can try to get customers to add more items to their carts. Let’s go over some popular ones. Use add-on products If you’re looking to increase the amount customers spend on an order, try add-on products. With add-on products, you can display other related or complementary items on a product page. For example, if you sell jewelry, you can upsell a jewelry cleaner add-on with any other product. This can encourage your customers to purchase multiple items from you and even increase their awareness of your other products. Display related products Similarly, you can display up to five related products on a product details page to help deepen customers’ engagement with your store. After you add categories and tags to your products, you can choose the ones you want to display. You can have random products within the category or tag, the newest products, or products with the highest stock quantity display. Use product variants to sell sets When adding a product to your store, you can set up variants for options like size and color. You could also use them to boost your sales by bundling sets of items. For example, if you sell tea cups, you can add a variant for a pair of cups or even a full tea set. Those variants display on the tea cup’s details page where the customer can add them directly to their carts. How can I make my site mobile friendly? While all Squarespace sites are designed to look great on mobile devices, sometimes additions like large media files or content-heavy pages can cause some issues to arise. Let’s share some tips on how to keep your Squarespace site mobile friendly: Keep your pages under 5 MB Pages with more than 5 MB of content may load slowly on mobile devices, impacting a visitor’s experience on your site. To ensure your site is designed with mobile in mind, check the size of your pages and make adjustments to the content as necessary. If your page has images on it, be sure to keep them below 500 KB to ensure they load as quickly as possible. You can use any third-party image editing software, like JPEGmini, to resize the image. (Fluid Engine) Edit your mobile layout With Fluid Engine, mobile layouts display the same content, but you can arrange the mobile layout and resize its blocks independently of the computer layout. In other words, if the alignment of a block looks great on a computer but not on a mobile device, you can reposition the block on the mobile layout without affecting the computer layout. (Classic Editor) Know how blocks stack on mobile With the Classic Editor, the mobile layout cannot be changed independently of the computer layout; Squarespace’s responsive design automatically stacks blocks vertically on mobile devices. If you have three image blocks in a horizontal row, they’ll stack on top of each other from left to right on mobile. Keep this in mind when editing your site, and be sure to take advantage of device view to get a preview of how edits you’re making will look on computer and mobile layouts.

Web crawlers are also used by AI companies to train their large language models (LLMs). These models learn from the content of websites they scan, and use the data to improve the accuracy and general capabilities of their AI models. 16. Email marketing is one of the most effective channels you can use to engage your audience. We’ve reviewed the questions we receive during our Engage your Audience with Email Campaigns webinar and boiled them down into five frequently asked questions. We then asked our CRM team here at Squarespace to share some of their expertise, and here’s what they had to say: What are some things I can do to build my mailing lists? A mailing list is a collection of email addresses that you send your email campaigns to. Let's take a moment to talk about some strategies you can use to build your mailing list subscribers. Make it easy for visitors to subscribe to your mailing list. When building your site, keep the visitors’ journey in mind and make sure that it’s easy for them to sign themselves up for your mailing list. Newsletter blocks can be placed throughout your site so that visitors can sign themselves up by typing their email address into the form. These blocks are often included in the site’s footer (that way they’re visible on every page), but you can place them anywhere. Depending on your site, you may want to place them in the middle of your homepage, on blog articles, or even create a dedicated newsletter sign up page. Use an automated email to offer an incentive. Have you ever visited a site and been offered a discount upon signing up for a mailing list? This is a common practice, and it can be quite effective at getting folks to sign up. You can create a subscriber-activity automation email to send visitors a special discount code upon signing up for your mailing list. You can then use a promotional pop-up to advertise this on your site. Upon visiting your site, people will be greeted by the pop-up notifying them about the discount. Advertise your mailing list on your social media. Leverage the audience your brand has on social media and advertise your mailing lists there. With Squarespace Email Campaigns, you can even copy the permalink URL for one of your blast campaigns to give your audience a taste of what they can expect from your emails. Utilize email sign-up form on your checkout page. When a customer is purchasing from you, they already have an interest in your brand or products. By including an email sign-up form on your checkout page, you’re making it easier for them to stay in the know about any new products or newsletters your release. Once I have a mailing list, how can I segment my subscribers and customers to boost sales? Are you familiar with your site’s Contacts panel? The Contacts panel displays all customers, mailing list subscribers, members, donors, and form submitters in one place so that you can better manage your brand’s relationships. The Contacts panel automatically sorts visitors who have interacted with your site into the following smart lists: Subscribers, Leads (subscribers who have not made a purchase), Customers, First-Time Customers, Repeat Customers, Donors, and Form Submitters. This is helpful data you can use to tailor blast campaigns. For example, you can send a blast campaign with a discount to your Leads smart list to encourage them to make a purchase or you can reward your Repeat Customers smart list with this discount. In addition to smart lists, you can create your own segments by using various filtering options (like tags, minimum amount spent, number of orders, etc.) to really take control of your customer relationship management. Like smart lists, you can send email campaigns directly to the segments that you create. What are some best practices for creating holiday campaigns? Did you know that there are seasonal email campaign templates available? These were designed with best practices in mind to help you create eye-catching holiday campaigns. You can check them out in the Email Campaigns composer. That said, many best practices for holiday campaigns are best practices for email marketing in general. Subject line and preview text. The subject line of your email should be as specific and concise as possible. Your subscribers should have an idea of what the contents of the email consist of before they open it. Actionable language is best. For example, for advertising your brand’s Black Friday sale, the subject line, “Take 25% off this Black Friday” is better than “Big news!”. Your email preview text goes hand-in-hand with your subject line. You can think of it as an additional opportunity to entice your subscribers into opening the email and give them a preview of the content. An example of preview text would be, “Build your new holiday wardrobe at great prices''. If your preview text is too short, many email clients will display some text from the start of your email. Therefore, make sure to maximize the standard character limit for email preview text to prevent this from happening. Create buzz with a teaser email. Before you announce the launch of a new collection or a sale, you can send out a teaser email to your subscribers to let them know that something is coming and when they can visit your site to get it. These emails not only create expectations and excitement, they can also prompt subscribers to visit your website and shop your current offerings. For example, you can include a call to action (anything in your email that is clickable) encouraging people to preview your products. You can find templates for teaser emails within the Seasonal category of the Email Campaigns composer. Create urgency. This may be a given, but it’s important to create a sense of urgency especially if you’re running a limited time sale or releasing a limited collection. To create urgency, you can use phrases such as, “while supplies last”, “for a limited time only”, or “last chance to shop the sale”. If you are running a sale, be sure to let your subscribers know when it ends. How can I use Email Campaigns to create drip campaigns? A drip campaign is an automated series of emails that are sent to your subscribers on a set cadence, and it’s a great way to keep them engaged. For example, if you sell jewelry on your site, you can set up a drip campaign that’s sent to purchasers sharing tips on how to care for their jewelry. That way, you’re staying in touch with your customers and offering them valuable information. To set up drip campaigns in Email Campaigns, create multiple subscriber-activity or customer-activity automated campaigns and schedule them to be sent out at different times. Your emails will then be sent out automatically as scheduled. Can I use AI to write my emails? You certainly can! When you’re adding text to your email in Email Campaigns, click the lightning bolt icon and enter a prompt. You can have Squarespace AI write a paragraph, a pitch, or a blurb directly in your email. AI is a helpful tool that you can use to get a first draft of content, but we always recommend that you review it to ensure that it’s accurate, appropriate, and includes your brand’s unique voice. As a note, by using Squarespace AI, you agree to the Content Generation Terms and that you are responsible for any text you use. Do you have any email marketing tips?
