How to add image blocks to a gallery section

Hey folks

Since it appears that in their infinite wisdom SquareSpace has decided to remove the gallery block, I am stuck with an issue. I have inserted a gallery section but I can't seem to add any blocks to it. I'm trying to add an image block but no joy. Any suggestions?

I'll add some images to demonstrate what I'm trying to achieve incase anyone has come up with some kind of workaround for this issue
