playpretendpottery
hi! i am in the process of setting up a website to sell some of my pottery. i am not an established business, just a small scale maker with a keen eye for design looking for a place to share my work and make the occasional sale. i am a bit overwhelmed looking at commerce and tax options / processes and could use your advice! i have a pay pal account, but am not sure whether my "business" is properly a business enough to upgrade to a business account. to be more specific, i'm not sure i'll be making enough profit to report come tax season, etc., so i'm a bit in over my head. does anyone have experience or advice as a small scale maker setting up your online store? what did commerce and tax set up look like for you? thanks so much. any help is welcome. WendyLW
Hello, A good place to start is to find a few online stores to glance thru with similar small product inventory (ceramics, soaps, candles, crystals) that you think have the style features you will want for your online shop. Then complete the store set up checklist in your Commerce settings. If you have physical products, you will want to have at least the business plan for your website subscription. You have the option to set up tax jar as an integration. In your commerce settings, you can use paypal or you can set up a Stripe account to process payments. 1. Add your products to a Store page (select physical, service, digital) 2. payment processor 3. style checkout page (add store policies for returns, etc) 4. style customer notification emails 5. extras (create discounts, enable reviews, add pickup or delivery details) Here is a Squarespace online shop to reference: https://www.somedayaccessories.com Here are 2 ceramics shops to view: https://www.theturmerictimes.com/shop https://bookwormpotteryco.com Good luck Getting started with Squarespace Commerce https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206779077-Getting-started-with-Squarespace-Commerce Note: this reply is not business advice.
