Developer Mode- how can you back up a site?

Hey, the title to my post is it! I've just put a lot of work and code into a site that was switched to developer mode last year by a contract developer.... pretty scary that it can't be backed up by duplicating.
What can I do?

Get the clone of your website developer code via Terminal/CMD

git clone https://your-website.squarespace.com/template.git
