How can I create a line break in header text?

When I'm in editing mode I'm able to create a line break by inserting <br/> in the text of the header content. When I press "Save" it appears to work, but when I exit editing mode the copy appears on one line again, and the piece of code is visible. How can I create and keep the line break in the header? (Attached are screen shots with and without line break.)
