  1. Hi
    My website is this: https://www.buildingpictures.pt/
    I recently updated an image that is on my homepage (you can see the attachment) and added code in the "Custom CSS".

    By the way, the code I added is this one:

    .slider {
       width: 100%;
       overflow: hidden;
    }

    .slider .slider-image{
       background-image: url(https://static1.squarespace.com/static/6022c2a79dbc57670b6d4774/t/63d954e075fa58624953250c/1675187425184/Banner+that+is%CC%81+on+site_02+copy.jpg);
       width: self;
       height: 150px;
       background-size: 2530px 129px;
       animation: slide 50s linear infinite;
    }

    @keyframes slide{
       from{background-position-x:0px;
       }
       to{background-position-x:-2950px;
       }
    }

    I also added this HTML code on the home page, where the image is: <div class="slider">
       <div class="slider-image">

       </div>
    </div>

    Before this image appeared on desktop and mobile, but now it only appears on desktop. Can anyone help me understand why this is happening?
    What can I do to resolve this situation?

    It would be great if someone could help.
    Thanks,

    Building Pictures

    Hello Squarespace!

    I am trying to launch a newsletter. I want to create an email to welcome all subscribers. But I have a problem: I want to put the subscriber's name automatically in all emails. For example, let's assume I have these email addresses: sarah@gmail.com and  brian@gmail.com. I want them to receive emails in a customised way. For example, I want this text to appear in the subject and the body of the email of these recipients: “Hello Sarah!” or “Thank you Sarah for subscribing to our newsletter!” / "Hello Brian!" or “Thank you Brian for subscribing to our newsletter!” respectively... and the same procedure with all other emails I have on the mailing list. I want this process to be done automatically, but I still haven't figured out how to do it. Can you help me?

    I would be very grateful if you can help.

    Thanks,

    Hello!
    I want to create a pop-up so people can subscribe to my newsletter. But in the pop-up templates available through Squarespace, I can't add a checkbox. I know this is possible in Squarespace forms, but in the template of the pop-up, I can't do it. And I want to use the pop-up because it is flashier. For the company, it is essential to have this checkbox so that people accept the terms and conditions before subscribing to the newsletter. In the European Union, this is mandatory because of the GDPR.
    Can you help me?
    Is there any way to include this checkbox in the pop-up or even inject the Javascript code? I know the code I can use, but I don't know where I should put it to include this in the pop-up.
    I send here the image of the pop-up I make. I would like to include the checkbox that appears in the second image.
    I would be very grateful if you could help me.
    Thanks,
    Building Pictures team

    Hello, Squarespace’s team,

    I have a question regarding my website. The problem starts with the search engines. When I search our company's podcast on Google, for example, using these keywords: "podcast" "No País dos Arquitectos", I notice that the fourth page that appears in the results is this – https://www.buildingpictures.pt/no-pais-dos-arquitectos - a page that I actually already deleted and doesn't direct people to the place they'd be expected to. (Attention: you must click on the pages to better understand the problem I am trying to explain.)

    The page where people should go and, taking into account that it is the one that is active on the website, is this one (in the Portuguese version) - https://www.buildingpictures.pt/pt/podcast-no-pais-dos-arquitectos

    And in the case of the English version, it would be this page - https://www.buildingpictures.pt/en/podcast-no-pais-dos-arquitectos

    I wanted to understand why a page that has been deleted appears in search engines. I need that the pages that appear in the first results are the visible ones. I.e. the pages here that I have already mentioned:

    https://www.buildingpictures.pt/pt/podcast-no-pais-dos-arquitectos

    https://www.buildingpictures.pt/en/podcast-no-pais-dos-arquitectos

    And not this one: https://www.buildingpictures.pt/no-pais-dos-arquitectos

    What should I do to resolve this issue?

    Thank you!

    I look forward to your feedback.

    Kind regards,

    Hi there,
    I had an upload a video on my homepage (https://www.buildingpictures.pt/), and no matter what I do it becomes a low resolution. The video has the right settings: format MP4, 364,9 MB, and 59 seconds. Does anyone know why the quality comes out so bad?
    How can I improve this?

    Appreciate any help.

    Hi Melanie

    Are you having problems with a background video not playing on your Squarespace 7.1 site?

    As I mentioned in my earlier postSquarespace now allows you to upload a video directly to the background of a section in Squarespace 7.1. You no longer need Vimeo or YouTube and should no longer experience issues with the video not playing. I'll be interested to hear if this isn't your experience.

    Paul

    Hi Paul
    I wasn't aware of that. I've already tried a video with these features and you are right: it works on mobile. Only when I put a video through Vimeo and Youtube does it not work.

    It was really a precious help. Thank you very, very much, Paul!

    Hey guys, I've developed a fix for this issue.

    There is indeed a Squarespace issue that stops background videos from playing on mobile.

    My fix for this issue doesn't require you to do anything differently, you still paste your video URL into the background video field as normal.  Here's a demo -

    I think this fix will provide real value to Squarespace website owners, so I'm going to start offering it as a plugin for £40, but before I start writing instructions and setting up the product I just wanted to gauge interest.  I will also be offering it to my existing Squarespace clients.

    The plugin has some stipulations:

    • You must be using Squarespace 7.1 (but if there's enough interest I'll adapt it to work on 7.0 as well)
    • You must have the business plan or higher to be able to paste the custom code for this fix
    • You must be using a paid Vimeo account, not Youtube. Most people should be doing this anyway because Youtube videos have youtube stuff all over them resulting in a poor user experience, and a paid Vimeo account is required for background videos
    • On iOS there's a feature that stops autoplay videos if the device is in low-power mode.

    Please let me know if you're interested, thanks!

    Hi @digitalfreelancer,

    We are interested in the plugin that you mentioned in your post.

    Our website is: https://www.buildingpictures.pt/

    Please contact us at: press@buildingpictures.pt

    By the way, I read another comment about this topic from another member (@colin.irwin), and I was intrigued by this:

    "Actually, it is controlled at OS level rather than browser level. Android and iOS have both blocked autoplay background video until recent releases.

    The attributes needed for autoplay to work are

    • autoplay
    • muted
    • playsinline

    The first two apply to Android and iOS, the third is iOS only.

    Even then there are numerous exceptions that can  prevent autoplay from working.

    • If the video has a soundtrack
    • if the device is in Low Power or Battery Saver mode
    • some browsers apply the muted attribute incorrectly and this blocks playback
    • ..and others"

    My question is: does this plugin work even with all these constraints that another user mentioned?

    What do these last two items mean:

    • some browsers apply the muted attribute incorrectly and this blocks playback
    • ..and others?

    Can you explain to me?

    Thanks so much for your help.

    Best regards,
    Melanie Alves
