Thanks, we actually figured it out. I hadn't worked on this page before, so was scratching my head trying to help a colleague.

There is usually a second calendar page which shows past and upcoming meetings. I usually use that page to copy content for the next months calendar. If I click on the calendar link shown, it doesn't allow me to add new events.
