How do I create a hover text over my grid gallery?

I have been looking for something like this, thank you! I'm still a newbie to CSS, what about your code makes it slide up from the bottom? What about it can be modified to have it slide in other directions or simply appear or zoom into the overlay? Also is there a way to maintain the title to the center of the image? Sorry for the multiple questions, just interested to learn.
