Can I add inventory count to Limited Availability custom message option

I want to be able to show how much inventory is left of a specific product but I don't like the templated/fixed options.  I want to create a custom message but also insert the inventory count within it.  Ex. "We only have [insert inventory count] units left!". 

Is there a way to do this through CSS/HTML?  Is it possible to pull live inventory counts?
